Interrogation
Select any conversation option. Pick up the newspaper from the desk and the fan from the bookshelf. Combine these two items in your inventory to create an air funnel. Use this on the coat rack to knock it over, then pick up the umbrella. Use the umbrella to get the keys I Can Break These Cuffs!. Now use the window on the right. Choose any conversation option once more.
Prologue
Adversary Proceeding
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Prologue.
Walk left and enter your quarters through the only open door. After Herman leaves, flip the light switch to turn off the lights. Now pick up the mysterious letter from the desk Who Turned Out The Lights?. Interact with the wax seal 3 times to open the envelope and read the letter. Put on the new blue suit, then head back out of your room.
Go left into the kitchen carriage to talk to the kitchen staff (1/9). Now head right and listen to the woman on the phone (2/9) until she notices you. Head right into the dining carriage and save your game.
Talk to Gunter (3/9) and Hagen (4/9), and choose to say you prefer tunnels Tunnel Head, or bridges Bridge Buff. You will need to load your game and select the other option to get both achievements. Further to the right, talk to Susanne (5/9) and Don (6/9) - Don will give you a note. Show the note to Susanne, but she won't take it from you.
Continue right and listen to the conversation between Shelly and Isaac (7/9) until they notice you. Next talk to Ron (8/9) at the bar, followed by the bartender (9/9) Arthur Ackerman, Attorney At Law. Now head right to meet up with Lady Unterwald. Once she asks you to open the window, try to open the locked left desk drawer 4 times Respect Your Elders!. Now open the window. Leave the room to join the speech. Choose any conversation option about the missing will.
Part 1
The Late Lady Unterwald
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Part One.
Try to get the will from the window, but it will blow away again. Go left and talk to Don - he will talk to Susanne and they will both leave. Pick up Don's room keys from the floor. Examine this in your inventory to see they are for Room 303. Head left to the sleeper carriage. Look at the doors until you find Room 303, then use Don's room keys to unlock the door and head inside.
Examine a few objects here, then go to leave, but you will hear someone coming. Just stand there and wait to be caught and subsequently interrogated Foggy Memory. You will now get another chance to hide, so hide under the sink. After Don and Bergmann leave again, open the closet and take the wire hanger. Now leave the room.
Go right through the dining carriage, casino carriage and lounge carriage. Try to go further right, but a guard will stop you. Talk to him about everything, then give him the love note to trigger his allergies. Once you are in Lady Unterwald's quarters, use the wire hanger on the bottom left drawer. Take the accounting ledger. Talk to Herman, who is hiding in the left closet.
Leave the room and go left twice to reach the dining carriage. Talk to Bergmann, then return left and enter Don's quarters again. Pick up the huge magnet from the desk. Leave the room again and go right twice to enter the casino carriage. Use the huge magnet on the roulette table (you will likely need to try several times to get the timing right, which is when he starts using his magnetic watch). Now quickly run left to Don's quarters and hide automatically. After Don leaves, open the secret compartment in the bed and take the casino chips. Leave the room once more.
Part 2
Burden of Proof
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Part Two.
Talk to Diana at the bar, and she will give you a mysterious napkin. Examine this in your inventory, but you cannot see anything on it. Head all the way to the right into Lady Unterwald's quarters. Doctor Hirsch will ask if anything looks different. Examine the left edge of the rug on the floor. Examine the locking mechanisms on the vault to see there is a combination lock and a voice-activated lock. Talk to Doctor Hirsch about everything. Pick up a petal leaf from the bed on the right before leaving the room.
Go left to the casino carriage and examine the red curtain - you will be offered a handshake, but don't know how to proceed. Continue left to reach the dining carriage, and speak to the artist about everything. Go right to the casino room and talk to the cashier on the far right - she will exchange your chips for a bag of cash. Go back to the artist in the dining carriage and give him the bag of cash. Return to the far right and give the sketches to Doctor Hirsch, who will then teach you the correct phrases.
Leave the room and go left to the casino carriage. Examine the red curtain again, and say the correct rhyming phrases. Once you are in the secret meeting room, ask the waiter in the corner if he has seen the briefcase. Wake Mr Masson (the sleeping man) but he is too drunk to talk to you. Talk to the waiter again to learn about the Rosebud cocktail. Leave the room.
Go left to the dining carriage and talk to the bartender. Order a Rosebud, then give him the petal leaf and the love note to receive a Bud-Lite. Also pick up the corking device from the bar. Head left to the sleeper carriage and enter your quarters. Take the mouthwash from near your sink. Leave your room again and go right 3 times to reach the lounge carriage. Talk to the twins - when they start arguing and their mother stands up, quickly take the hearing horn from the table on the right. In your inventory, combine this with the corking device, then pour in the Bud-Lite and the mouthwash. Drink the Rosebud.
Once you are back in the secret meeting room, talk to Mr Masson to get a storage key. Leave the room and the bartender will help you sober up. Go left 3 times and use the storage key on the luggage storage room door. You will find Doctor Hirsch's briefcase on the floor on the left. Leave the room and go left to see the twins. Talk to them, then give them the briefcase - after they break it, you will pick up the medical records. Head to the far right into Lady Unterwald's quarters again. Examine the medical records in your inventory, then examine the safe again. Enter the code based on the date of birth in the medical records (this is random with each game).
Leave here and go left to the casino carriage, then through the curtain into the secret meeting room. Talk to the society member reading the yellow book, then ask to borrow it. Leave again and go left twice into the sleeper carriage, then enter Don's quarters. Grab the yellow book of poetry from the bed. While you are here, use the corking device on the champagne bottle on the right Sealed The Deal. Also pick up the recording device and magnetic ball from the floor.
Go back out of the room, then head right to the casino carriage and enter the secret meeting room again. Use the poetry book on the yellow book on the table to swap them, then examine the invisible ink book in your inventory. Leave the room and go left 3 times to reach the kitchen carriage. Once you agree to help with the rodent problem, go left and take the purple oven gloves from the front of the oven (if a chef is blocking them, leave and come back again until you can take them). Now enter the kitchen pantry on the left, where you will automatically pick up Lady Unterwald's cane. Break off some cheese from the cheese wheel on the left.
Now you need to block each of the mouse holes using your corking device: to the right of the kitchen, in Don's quarters, and in the secret meeting room. Now head to the luggage storage room. Put some cheese near the chewed up fence, then use the oven gloves to catch the mouse. You will also automatically take Herman's key. After showing the mouse to the kitchen staff, feed the rest of the cheese to the mouse in your inventory Cheeses For Us Meeces. Use your mysterious napkin on the stove-top to the left and you will see the number 306 appear. Show the mouse to the chef on the right once more Kitchen Nightmares.
Return right to the sleeper carriage and use your lightly toasted note on the door to room 306. Inside talk to Diana about everything, then take a blank wire reel from the desk and put it into your recording device. Leave the room and use the recording device on the phone to the right. Head to the far right into Lady Unterwald's quarters again and examine the safe. Use the recording device on the voice lock and the safe will open.
You will automatically go to Herman's room. Slide open the window. Combine your wire hanger and Lady Unterwald's cane, then use this to get the will.
Part 3
The Curious Case of Mr Liu
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Part Three.
Take some popcorn from the box at the far bottom right. Use this on the windowsill, then walk down and quickly take the stationery pot from the table while the publisher is distracted. Pick up the prototype doll from the windowsill. In your inventory, use the letter opener on the doll to get some sawdust. Collect a cup from the water cooler on the left, then put your sawdust into the cup of water. Use the cup of paste on the board machine.
Talk to each of the publishers and ask them what they are looking for in a pitch. Get the package from the in-tray and the manuscript from the waste bin. Use the letter opener on the package in your inventory, and you will have 3 manuscripts and a cover page. Examine the in-tray and add the documents in this order:
- Adventure manuscript
- Romance manuscript
- Chiselton's manuscript
Your "manuscript" will now get accepted Signed!. Once you are on the train with Lady Unterwald, take a habanero pepper from the chili plant on the desk. Leave the room and talk to the twins and Arista, then go left to the lounge carriage. Talk to the stage manager just to the right of the stage about everything. Take the set list from the left side of the stage and examine it in your inventory. Go back and talk to the stage manager again, and get the quiz about the band correct (based on the set list, which is random for each game). You will receive a signed business card.
Go left twice to the sleeper carriage and talk to Don about a forgery. Give him the signed business card and you will end up going into his quarters. Keep talking until you receive the Rosebud recipe.
Go back outside and head right to the dining carriage. Eavesdrop on Mr Masson's order, then head all the way left into the kitchen carriage. Enter the kitchen and pretend to be a health inspector, but you will need ID to prove it. Next head right to find the lounge carriage. Talk to the kid near the shoeshine station, and suggest a trade for her detective kit. In your inventory, combine the cover page with the adventure manuscript. Give this to the kid and you will receive the detective kit.
Go back to the sleeper carriage and enter Don's quarters. Look at the toy badge in your inventory, then ask Don to make it more convincing. Leave the cabin and go right. Flash your badge to Mr Masson (1/5), then to Bergmann (2/5) and Ron (3/5). Next flash your badge to the bartender (4/5). Continue right to the lounge carriage and flash your badge to Arista (5/5) Herman Merman, Detective Extraordinaire!.
Head all the way left to the kitchen carriage again and enter the kitchen. Now you can show your badge and you will have access to the kitchen. Put your pearl necklace into the oyster sack. Next put your habanero pepper into the pot of soup on the counter. Talk to the second chef until he tastes the soup. Now pick up the butter from the counter. Turn on the faucet on the far right. While the left chef is distracted, quickly turn off the grill he was using, and increase the gas flow just to the right. The waiter will come in to see the chaos If You Can't Handle The Heat....
Back in the dining carriage, talk to Mr Masson and suggest that he has a drink. Talk to the bartender on the right, then give him the Rosebud recipe. After Mr Masson passes out, pick up the magnet from the floor next to him. Now talk to Doctor Hirsch, who is at the right end of the bar. Talk to him a second time, and turn down all of his ideas Fan Friction.
Go to the sleeper carriage and enter Don's quarters again. Give Don the magnet, and you will receive a forged entry list. Leave the room and head to the lounge carriage. Exchange your forged entry list for the guest list to the right of the stage. Talk to the stage manager and ask her to check the guest list again. Now you can enter the green room.
Talk to Susanne on the left about everything, including all options to warm up her voice The Golden Canary. Now talk to the band at the table about everything. Go to leave the room, and you will end up playing cards with the band.
Part 4
Contributory Negligence
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Part Four.
Talk to the leader and both other members about the idol. Next examine the smudge on the painting of Lady Unterwald to notice it has been altered. Leave the secret meeting room and go left to the dining carriage. Take a napkin from the bar, then look beneath the tables to see a briefcase and search it to get a bottle of surgical spirit.
Return right to the casino carriage, then into the secret meeting room. Combine the napkin with the bottle of surgical spirit, then use it on the smudge on the painting. Look at the hand gesture that is revealed. Leave the secret meeting room and go all the way right to the lobby carriage. Read the plaque on the train diorama, then use your magnifying glass on it.
While you are here, use the telephone just to the left and ask for a hint I Need A Hint!. There is an extra achievement for doing this while playing as Herman Swallowed Your Pride.
Go left twice and enter the secret meeting room again. Go through to the room on the right and talk to Brian. Say you need a specific idol with the following details:
- It was a single finger being held out.
- "Dedicated to my beloved wife, my dear Junebug"
You will end up receiving the idol. Give this to the leader of the meeting back in the secret meeting room. After the vote is unsuccessful, leave the room and go to the far left to reach the kitchen carriage. Use your paper cup to collect some soup from the pot of soup on the counter. Go all the way back to the secret meeting room and give this to Mr Masson to wake him up. Talk to the leader to initiate another emergency vote Democracy Manifest!.
Leave the secret meeting room and Arista will ask for your help. Head right to the lounge carriage, then enter the green room. Back out from your conversation with the band. In your inventory, combine the hand cream with the butter, then use the slippery mixture with the knife. Now talk to the band and ask them to look at the horn. Next ask to borrow the reed - agree to play the knife game again and you will end up with a repaired horn.
Leave the green room and talk to Arista on the right. You will eventually end up in Lady Unterwald's room on top of Mr Liu. Look at Mr Liu, then use the slippery mixture on his hand to get a photo. Flip the photo to see a message. After automatically putting Mr Liu in the case, leave the room and go left 4 times to reach the sleeper carriage. Look at the fuse box to the far left, then use your toy lockpick on it. Disconnect the wiring, then you will enter Arthur's room. Put the blue suit on the wooden hanger.
After the cutscenes you will be in disguise. Go all the way left to the sleeper carriage, but the twins are blocking your door. Return all the way right to the lobby carriage and enter the washroom. Pick up the blue plunger. Now head all the way left to the kitchen carriage. Take the red lunger. In your inventory, attach both plungers to the boots. Now head to the far left to go outside. Climb up the ladder.
Part 5
Family Division
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Part Five.
Talk to April about everything. Look at the motorbike, then look at the front of the car. Pick up Agent M (the mouse) from the table and an empty canister from the floor. Look at the wiring kit on the left, but you won't be allowed to take it. In your inventory, put Agent M into your empty tube. Go to the far left and push the red lever down, then load Agent M into the loading bay. Push the green button - you will end up getting the wiring kit.
Pick up the empty fuel tank from the far left. Examine the front of the car again. Use your wiring kit to remove the rubber tubing. Next use the rubber tubing on the fuel inlet of the car, then attach your empty fuel tank to the other end. Now use the fuel tank and the wiring kit on the motorbike. Use the motorbike to leave.
Open the gadget bag in your inventory. Take out an incendiary pencil, then use your wiring kit on it to remove the gunpowder. Put the gunpowder into your fuel tank, then give the fuel tank to April.
You will now have access to switch between Arthur and Diana.
Switch to Arthur and try to break free from your ropes. Now talk to the twins and tell them that Herman could be them in a staring contest. Use Agent M from your inventory on Diana's ropes. Once you are on top of the train, switch back to Diana. Use the truth serum on the financial records. Now talk to Bergmann until he lies down. Pull the red whistle cord - this will make the train go through a tunnel.
Switch back to Arthur and pick up a lump of coal. Wait for Mr Liu to reload, then throw the lump of coal at Mr Liu to distract him; quickly switch back to Diana and pull the red whistle cord again Tunnel Vision. Still with Diana, throw the packet of incendiary pencils into the firebox.
Part 6
False Pretences
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Part Six.
You will now have access to switch between all 3 characters With Our Powers Combined!.
Switch to Arthur and you will automatically talk to Don in the next cell. Look out from your cell and try to use your umbrella on the lockbox. Talk to Jimmy repeatedly until he gets in trouble Intern-ment. Now switch to Diana and use Agent M to collect the magnetic ball from the floor.
Switch to Arthur and put your shackle key into the toilet, then flush the toilet to send it to Diana. Switch to Diana and look in your toilet to get the shackle key. Look out from your cell and use the shackle key on the padlock - you will end up getting the heavy chains.
Switch back to Arthur and return to your cell, then turn the red valve to switch the flow of water to the right. Switch to Diana and put the magnetic ball into the toilet, then flush it to send it to Arthur. Switch to Arthur and flush the toilet again to send the magnetic ball right to Don. Switch to Diana and put your heavy chains into the toilet.
Now switch to Herman, who will see April outside. Return into your cell and look in the toilet to see the heavy chains. In your inventory, use the letter opener on your plunger boots. Pick up the rusty pole from the floor and combine this with your suction cup. Now use the makeshift plunger on the toilet to get the heavy chains Plumbed New Depths. Use the heavy chains on your window
Finale
Dispute Resolution
There is an achievement for starting this chapter Finale.
Starting with Diana, examine the large painting of Lady Unterwald. Open the first safe, then look at the two mechanisms on the smaller safe inside. Put the truth serum into the pneumatic tube on the right.
Switch to Herman and search the doctor's body to find a syringe. Use the syringe on the doctor to revive him, then talk to him about everything. Press the request button next to the pneumatic tube to get the truth serum. Pick up a wire reel from the crate on the left, then put this into the pneumatic tube.
Switch to Arthur and examine the painting over the fireplace Lord Unterwald. Press the request button next to the pneumatic tube to get the wire reel. In your inventory, put this into the recording device. Next take a vinyl record from the right bookcase, and use it on the gramophone to the far left. Use your recording device on the gramophone to record the voice. Put your voice recording into the pneumatic tube.
Switch to Diana and press the request button next to the pneumatic tube to get the voice recording.
Switch to Arthur and put the wax into the pneumatic tube.
Switch to Herman and press the request button next to the pneumatic tube to get the wax. Head down the stairs on the right and turn the red valve to open the boiler. Put the truth serum into the boiler to raise the temperature, then click on the boiler to warm up yourself (and the wax). Use the melted wax on the statue to the right of Doctor Hirsch to get a wax imprint of the thumb. Put this into the pneumatic tube.
Switch to Diana and press the request button next to the pneumatic tube to get the wax imprint. Examine the safe and use both the wax imprint and voice recording to open it.
Once you all arrive at the reading, use each of the 3 characters in turn and talk to Arista until she shakes the floor. Once she has done this for each conversation, she will confess The Truth Hurts. During the fight, switch to Herman and use your letter opener on the rope to the right The End.
