Limbo of the Lost is a satirical fantasy first person adventure game. You control Captain Benjamin Spooner Briggs, on a quest to find the Book of Sufferance in order to defeat Fate, who plans to control all of humanity.

Prologue

The Dungeons

After meeting Arach, open your cell door. Head down along the corridor, then keep following the only possible path until you see a vision of a skeleton. Head right from here and have a conversation with Nilmates, a corpse in a cage. Pick up the damp torch from the floor here, then leave this room to the left, then continue left. Keep going until you see a sign that says "SHHH! Grunger". Enter the room to the left. After a conversation with Edd the Head, pick up the empty flask.

Leave this room and head up the stairs and through a wooden door into a kitchen. After talking to Cranny, enter the room on the right. Pick up a jar and note from the table, and a pot from the floor. In your inventory, combine the damp torch with the jar of human fat, and you will get an oily torch.

Return left and use the oily torch with the fierce fire beneath Cranny's cauldron. Go right again, then continue right, upstairs and through another wooden door. Burn both of the strong ropes in here with your lit torch.

Leave this room, then walk down along the corridor to see a sign that says "Beware Water!!". Go through the door here. Use your empty glass flask in the fountain, then add your slimy worm to make tequila.

Head all the way back to Nilmates, who has fallen to the floor. Pick up the severed arm and human skull, then go back to Cranny. Give the severed arm, tequila and human skull to Cranny - she will give the skull back to you, filled with Grunger's brew. Head back to Grunger and look at his face. Use your purple pot to get some of Grunger's snot, then combine this with the human skull. Give your finished sleeping potion to Edd the Head.

After the cutscene, go back to Grunger and take his key. Go to the room with the water fountain, then walk down and use Grunger's key on the door.

Chapter 1

The Lower Reaches

Pick up the coffin lid, then go through the door. After talking to the Keeper of Lost Souls, take the bag of saffron. Return to the previous room and look at the right coffin. Grab a bone from the corpse's belly. Look at the corpse's face and take a glass eye from the empty eye socket. Next look at the left coffin, and pick up the small ornamental wheel and the eye patch.

Head left and use your coffin lid on the rotten floorboards. Now walk along the corridors until you reach a room with 3 dogs and 3 gates.

Look at the grating in the floor, and take the metal bar from the middle. Back out again. Put your bone in the bowl next to the top dog, then head through the left gate. Continue along the path, taking the left branch at the intersection. Keep going until you reach a dark stairway, then take the torn curtain from the far left. Now continue until you reach Bugsy's room.

After the conversation, take the small bottle from the floor. Press the button over the sink, then quickly use your small bottle on the water to collect some. Combine the bottle of water with your saffron.

Head all the way back to the room with the 2 coffins. Combine your metal bar and ornamental ship's wheel, then use this on the metal plate in the wall just left of the gate. After the gate opens, move the lid on the stone coffin, and you will end up with an ornate vial from Nilmates. Look at the right coffin again and take another bone from the corpse. Back out and go down to the gift shop. This time, take the bottle of chloroform.

Go back to the room with 3 dogs. Put your bone in the bowl next to the bottom dog, then head through the middle gate. Continue along the paths until you talk to Arach. From here, continue left and you will eventually talk to Onegus behind a window. Give him your ornate vial. Now look at the soul cabinet, and replace the Soul of the Warrior with your green bottle. Back out and grab the glass jar from the table in the back room, then combine this with your bottle of chloroform.

Go back to the room with 2 coffins once more. Look at the right coffin so you can take another bone from the corpse inside. Head to the room with 3 dogs. Put your bone in the bowl next to the middle dog, then head through the right gate. Continue along the paths, taking the right branch at the intersection. Keep going until you reach a statue, then push it and pick up the gold trophy cup from the floor.

Go through the door on the right, then continue forward to meet Blackhawk. Combine your eye patch and glass eye, then use this on the two-headed raven, and you will receive a bird cage. Return to the room with 3 dogs, and head down twice.

Take some sawdust from the top of the right urn, then use your gold trophy cup on the top of the left urn to fill it with oil. Go back to the 3 dogs again and head through the left gate. Continue along the paths, this time taking the right branch at the intersection. You will eventually reach a sign that says "Beware Woodgator!!". Use your trophy of oil on the hole next to the gate, then pull the chain. Combine your bird cage and sawdust, then put this into the mouth of the cave. Once Woodgator enters the cage, use your torn curtain on the bird cage, then pick it up.

Return to the intersection and take the left branch. Continue to Bugsy's room again. Use your jar of chloroform on the glass grub on the left.

Go back to the room with 3 dogs again and head through the right gate. Continue along the paths, this time taking the left branch at the intersection. After meeting the Stone Guardian, use the Seal of Sufferance on him, then use the Soul of a Warrior to get past. In the Arena of Pain, look at the pink ornamental statue on the left, then use your grub on the orb. Grab the metal spear, then back out. Look at the grub on the floor and use your chloroform jar on the transformed grub.

Return to the 3 dogs and go through the middle gate. Continue to the intersection and give Arach the jar with the fly. Now use Arach's fingernail on the door to the right. In the next room, use Woodgator on the wooden door. Press the metal button that has been revealed. Use your spear on the closed door to the right, then close the opened door to the far right. Finally, head through the left door.

Chapter 2

The Sewers

Head down and talk to the Keeper of Lost Souls to receive a set of dice. Continue through the corridors and into an elevator. Head down into a swamp, then go left until you talk to Quagmire, a chained prisoner. Use Arach's fingernail on Quagmire, then take the iron jaw clamp. Use this in your inventory - you will convert it into a metal blindfold. Head down twice, then forward to meet up with Nilmates, who will give you a rusty dagger.

Return to where you entered the swamp, then continue right to a room with 3 vents. Each of these vents is surrounded by buttons around the edge; these are numbered from 0 at the top, and increasing in a clockwise direction. Look at vent 1 (on the left), and click buttons 1 and 3, then enter the open vent.

Walk left, then follow the sewers until you see a sign that says "Office of Woe". Head left and knock on the door. After your conversation with Worrymeister, use the metal blindfold on him. Open the desk drawer and take the ink pot and the fountain pen, then combine these items in your inventory.

Leave the office, and walk right and down, then keep going until you reach an armory. Pick up the hammer from the floor on the right, then go back once. Grab a piece of wood from the table on the right, then use your rusty dagger on it to create a wooden flute. Go back to the "Office of Woe" sign and head right, continuing until you find a sign that says "Pump Room". Go down twice, then quickly use the pen on the water monster (if you are too slow, leave and come back to this room to try again). Once successful, you will end up with a pen nib. Also pick up the key from the floor here (near the middle metal spike).

Return to Quagmire and use the pen nib on him. Go back to the room with 3 vents. Look at the second vent and click button 0 (at the very top), then enter the open vent. Walk down until you find a drunk man at a desk. Use the chain to the right of him, then pick up the glass bottle from the floor.

Walk down and grab some metal cutters from the table. Head forward through the left archway into a bar. Use your empty glass bottle on the dripping tap to the left. Return to the drunk man, then head right, left and right to meet Nora Ratty. After talking to her, enter her room again and you will automatically give her the bottle.

Go back to Quagmire and use the metal cutters on him to get a metal circular device. Head to the room with 3 vents. Use the metal circular device on the third vent, then use the wooden flute in your inventory. After you see the rat move the metal ball, head through the first vent. Make your way to the "Pump Room" sign, then use your rusty key on the rusty gate. Inside the pump room, read the small notice. Try to turn the metal valve, then use Thor's hammer on it to move the metal ball once more.

Go back to the 3 vents. Enter the second vent and walk down once so you are in the room next to Nora Ratty. The metal ball should be here, so use your wooden flute again. Head to the drunk man and use the control box on his desk. Now go right twice and enter the boat.

Chapter 3

Darkmere

You will automatically receive three old coins. Pick up the metal chain from the ground. Walk forward to meet a blind beggar, then continue forward and enter the Inn of Sin through the left door. After the conversation with the landlord, continue further into the Inn until you find a drunk man - you will end up in prison.

Take the tin cup from the bed and use it on the cell door. Use your last meal on the window to the right. Once you are free, look at Victim 2, then walk down and you will see a map.

Go to the Bric a Brac Shoppe and head inside. Take the charcoal and rubbing paper from the table on the right. Return to the map, and go to the Stables. Look at the door, and use your charcoal paper on the embossed symbol here. Back at the map, go to the Cobbler and head inside. Give the shoemaker your charcoal etching.

You will automatically return to the map - head to the Blacksmiths and look at Victim 3, then go inside. After a cutscene, go back to the map and head to the Pie Shoppe. Go inside, then return to the map. Next go to the Pawn Shoppe and head inside to talk to Danny Skurge. Back outside again, pick up the note from the ground. Back at the map, go to Town Hall. Head inside and walk up the stairs, then go right along the balcony and you will talk to the mayor.

Return to the map and head to the Society Hall & Hospice. After automatically leaving, go back here again and pick up the leather apron and glasses from the floor. Use the map to go to the Blacksmiths. After another cutscene, leave here and go to the Mystic Cottage, then head inside.

Go back to the Inn of Sin and walk to right door. Use Key I on the door. Find an entrance to a dungeon behind the counter (near the bottom-right corner of the right wooden panel beneath the bar). Take the 2 rusty keys from the wall. Go right and through a metal door, then continue right, then left twice. Pick up the cloth sack from the floor, then the clothes from the door. Look at the cabinet on the wall, and use your 2 rusty keys on the ones in here to swap them out. Go through the door here, and pick up the matchstick from the floor, as well as the candle and scroll from the desk. Now head all the way back to the map.

Head to the Pawn Shoppe and use Key O on the door. Inside, take the pair of glasses and the glass box from the counter. Go back to the map, then head to the Bric a Brac Shoppe. Go inside - after the cutscene, go inside again and pick up the key from the floor. Return to the map.

Travel to the Abattoir and use Key A on the door. Inside, pick up yet another key from the floor. Go back outside to the map and head to the Stables. Pick up the strands of hay and leather pouch from the ground. Use Key S on the door to get inside. After another cutscene, head back inside. Press the small button on the wall next to the door on the back wall.

Return to the map and go to the Dead End. Walk forward, then press the 3 buttons (left, right and then center). Use Key C on the door.

Chapter 4

The Machine

Scroll your inventory to the far left to see your remaining items. Take the map from the right wall, then walk left and pick up the wires from the floor. Return up the stairs and look at the fuse box, then use the wire on it (just right of the green lights). Back out and go left, then follow the path until you can board a train.

From the train map, go to Design. Walk until you meet the Janitor, then return to the train. Next go to Tower 3. After leaving the train, pick up the metal bar from the floor. Board the train again and go to Fuel. Walk until you find a large round room, then pick up the skull from the right. Return to the train and head to Tower 5.

Walk until you find 2 electrical towers, then pick up the metal tongs from the floor. Go back to the train, then head to the Broken Track (just to the left of Tower 5). In your inventory, use the metal tongs on the skull. Combine the gold teeth with the metal bar, then use this on the broken track.

Return to the train and go back to Design. Walk until you talk to the Janitor again, then return to the train. After a cutscene, go back to talk to the Janitor once more. Take some cables from the right, then go back to the train.

Next go to Tower 4. Walk until you reach a chain fence on the right, and pick up a metal hinge pin from the floor beneath the fence. Return to the train and travel to Parts. Walk until you reach a large empty room and pick up the metal plate from the bottom left. Return to the train and now head to Heart.

Go until you find the Janitor, and give him the red cables, the metal hinge pin and the metal patch. After the cutscene, step onto the platform.

Chapter 5

The Citadel

Pick up the door knocker from the ground on the right, then head inside. Go through the door in the back right of this room. Take the 4 seals from the columns here, then go down.

Pick up the door knocker from the gap in the floor, then go forward and take the candle from the wall on the right. Return to the entrance hall. Use the candle on each of the 4 seals, then look at the statue in the middle of the room. Insert the 4 wax seals into the 4 numbered slots:

  1. Famine
  2. War
  3. Pestilence
  4. Death

Back out, then go through the door in the back right of the room again. Continue down, forward twice and right, then pick up a door knocker from the floor. Head into each of the 4 rooms here and pick up a door knocker from each room, so that you now have a total of 7. Return to the entrance hall again.

Now you need to go to the other rooms coming off the entrance hall, and attach the door knockers to the correct doors, noting the colors of the eyes as you attach the door knockers:

  • Left Room: Greed (aqua), Gluttony (yellow)
  • Back-Left Room: Sloth (white), Envy (green)
  • Back-Right Room: Pride (blue), Lust (purple)

Save your game before attaching the final door knocker.

  • Right Room: Wrath (red)

You now have to solve the final puzzle within a time limit. You need to visit the rooms around the entrance hall and click on metal plates in this order:

  1. Pride (back-right room)
  2. Sloth (back-left room)
  3. Lust (back-right room)
  4. Envy (back-left room)
  5. Greed (left room)
  6. Gluttony (left room)
  7. Wrath (right room)
Go through the portal that appears. When the Ouija board appears, spell out the word DESTINY.
