Is This Game Trying to Kill Me? is a first person puzzle adventure game. You are trapped in a remote cabin in the woods, and are invited by the owner of the cabin to play a computer game in exchange for your freedom. As you play the game, you find that game events appear to be affecting the real world.

Arrival

Walk around the room until there is some lightning, then head over to the window to look at the yellow balloon. After the introduction from the wizard, use the computer to start the game.

Walk up the first room and pull the lever, then go through the door.

In the second room, approach the pedestal and put your hand on the rusty spike The Game Has Begun. Look to the right back in the real world to see 3 symbols drawn in blood on the wall. Back in the game, flip over the shields with the matching 3 symbols (mushroom, bull, tower), then go through the door.

In the next room, step on the spikes to die First Blood. The next time, press the green buttons to rotate the hands on the clock in the real world You need to press the left button 4 times (to point at the cross), and press the right button 3 times (to point at the arrow). Continue up over the deactivated spikes and go through the door.

The next area has 3 connected rooms. Go to the left and open the brown chest. In the real world, pick up a tile piece from the opened brown chest on the left. There is another tile piece on the table, and a third is within a vertical tower on the right of the room. You need to insert these tiles as follows:

Head up over the path you have created and take the orb. Return over the path, then go right twice. You will find another room with water and a single tile that can be moved around. Move the tile so you can cross the water going up. Now when you need to move the tile up, use the large button on the right in the real world. Return to the game and cross the water to the left so you can collect a second orb. Move the tile back down to the right so you can return to the first room. Place your 2 orbs on the 2 statues, and you will see 2 groups of symbols highlighted on the walls in the real world. Stand on these symbols in order in the game, then go through the door.

In the following room, you can pick up an eye from the pillar on the right, and insert it into other pillars. You can see what the eye sees by looking at the screen on the left in the real world. Using this information, change the symbols on the 4 buttons at the top left part of the room:

  • White: Sword
  • Red: Axe
  • Blue: Spear
  • Purple: Hammer

Go up to the top area and pull the lever. Pick up the eye again and carry it through the door.

Insert the eye into the middle pillar. Talk to the skeleton and agree to play their card game. For each of the card game's rounds, look at the screen in the real world to see the skeleton's cards, then select where you can see the green Joker (remembering you are looking from behind the skeleton, so the positions are reversed). Once you win the game, you can go through the door.

In the next room, push the tiles around to create a door symbol, and the door in the real world will open. Back out from the computer and head into the next room in the cabin. Turn left and pull the glowing red lever on the wall, then return into the computer game. Note the number 6 next to a red mushroom symbol on the floor. Now go through the opened door.

Talk to the figure trapped in ice, which is blocking your path forward. Note the number 4 next to a brown mushroom symbol on the floor. Go right and note the number 2 next to a purple mushroom symbol on the floor. Open the green chest, then head left twice. Note the number 3 next to a green purple mushroom symbol on the floor. Read the inscriptions on the sarcophagi in this room, then back out to the real world.

Head around into the room with a fireplace. You can remove the 3 green staples from the wall to create a direct path back to the computer. Look in the high shelves to see the 4 types of mushrooms in this order: red, green, purple, brown. Go to the storage locker in this room and enter a combination based on the mushroom symbols from the computer game: 6324. Take out the firewood and put it in the fireplace. Now go to the other room and look at the portraits and plaques on the walls. You need to match the portraits with the plaques, using information from the sarcophagi (and guessing the last pairing):

  • Howard Smith: Surgeon
  • Clive Stoker: Sailor
  • Robert Lewis: Clown
  • Edgar Philips: Hunter
  • Bram Howard: Executioner

Take an ice statue from the secret compartment that opens. Take 3 light bulbs from the opened green chest and insert them as follows into the grid in the first room:

Return to the computer game and go right twice. Using the light sources, make you way up, right, down and right. Back out of the game and adjust the light bulbs to these positions:

Return to the computer game and now make your way to the top right area and pick up the matches. Make your way back through the maze, adjusting the light bulbs as necessary. Return to the fireplace in the game and use your matches to light a fire. Back out from the computer game, then go and throw the ice statuette into the fireplace. Return to the computer game and go right, then continue up past the melted ice.

Turn the green valve on the pipe to the right, then back out of the game. Go to the sink in the room with the fireplace and turn the tap, then return to the game. Look into the pool where the blood has been drained. Back out of the game again and set the light bulb positions according to the pattern in the pool (you will need to have 1 light bulb removed):

Take the fireplace door from the compartment that opens below the lights. Go and put this over the fireplace in the other room and note the dice that are highlighted on the carpet in front of the fireplace. Turn on the lights on these dice in the game (1, 3, 5). Go up and pull the lever, then go through the door.

Basement

You will be kicked out of the game due to a broken signal, and there will now be no color visible. Walk around to find a new door has opened, that allows you to go down into the basement. Make your way to a room with vertical and horizontal pipes. Turn the valves to move the glitched lines on your display off the screen to the left and bottom, and the next door will open.

On the left wall, you will see a series of 5 buttons and an order in which they should be pressed. Using the pictures around the room you can work out the colors of the buttons, then press them according to the list:

Three tins of paint will now drop down to the floor. You need to insert these into the holders on the left so that the colors in the room look correct. From where they drop on the floor:

  • Put the left tin in the left holder
  • Put the middle tin in the right holder
  • Put the right in in the middle holder

Correct color will now return Broken Signal. Return upstairs again.

Pig Merchant

Use the computer and you will find yourself in a new area. Walk straight ahead and talk to the pirate skeleton, then challenge him to a fight Worth a Try. After you start again, go right twice and search the pile of human bones to find 10 coins. Head left 3 times and talk to the pig merchant, then buy the fishing rod.

Head right twice and use the small seat near the water. Catch 9 fish (9/20), then go left twice and sell them by putting them in the green crate. Now you can buy the bomb from the pig merchant.

Go right 3 times. Use your bomb on the brick wall to destroy it, then continue up. Pick up the emerald, and gas will fill the room. Quickly push the blocks on the left so you can turn a red valve on the left. Run to the right and up and turn a second valve. Back out of the game and enter the room on the left, then quickly turn the red valve on the wall. Return to the screen with the pig merchant and sell the emerald, then buy the copper key.

Go right twice and open the locked door with the copper key. Read the sign "Beware of ghosts", then continue up through the door. In this section of the game, you need to carefully walk through the halls, watching for the lights to flicker in the cabin around you - this indicates the presence of a ghost, and you cannot go this way. You will be able to find 4 rubies and 3 emeralds. Return to the pig merchant again. Sell the rubies and emeralds, then buy the golden key.

Use the golden key to unlock the door here and go through. You will find a grid with 3 tiles that you can slide around. Leave the computer game and head into the left room to see a similar pattern in a power box on the wall. Now return to the game and arrange the tiles as follows:

In the cabin, go to the power box and press the button, which will open access to a small area next to it. Open the small hatch on the wall here, and a hand will emerge. There are 3 golden urns in the room that you can place in the hand, worth a total of 10000 coins (to get the one high up on the roof beam, you need to throw one of the green staples at it that you removed from the wall earlier. Press the left button on the vending machine and take the screwdriver. Use this on the 4 screws at the corners of the wooden panel on the right. Now adjust the numbers beneath the fish to read 10000.

Return to the computer game and catch another 9 fish (18/20) and sell them. While you are here, catch another 2 fish (20/20) and sell these as well Merchant. Buy the sword from the pig merchant, then return to the skeleton pirate and choose to fight him again. During the battle, avoid the deadly obstacles, then choose the poison symbol to attack him 3 times to win Glorious Battle!.

Leave the computer game and return to the vending machine. Press the right button and grab the floppy disk (1/3) Shard of Memory. Return to the computer game and head up through the gate, then continue forward. When the floor collapses, quickly dodge the spikes and you will end up falling back onto the bed in the cabin.

Swamp

Use the computer and you will find yourself in a new area again Swamp. There is a totem pole here with 3 segments, and you can change these segments using 3 devices. Return to the cabin and look around to find matching skeleton segments, then go into the game and set them as follows:

  • Top; Boar
  • Middle: Snake
  • Bottom: Fish

Continue left and up to a new screen with a pentagram on the ground. Head left and open the green door in the game, then back out to the cabin.

Go into a new room. You can remove the 3 green staples from the wall to create a direct path back to the portrait room. You should then throw these staples at the 4 spiders on the wall to kill them. Go and talk to the spider man in the hole to receive a key, then use this key to open a locked panel on the wall. Examine the book inside this panel and follow its instructions:

  • Go to the room with the fireplace and look out the window to see the crescent moon. Adjust the small device inside the pentagram to match this: red, red, blue, blue.
  • Now light the 5 candles around the pentagram in the same ordered as the symbols in the book, starting at the top-left and following the arrows.

Return to the computer game. Return right to the pentagram and then up to a new area with an orange slime. Go left first, then walk over some disappearing lily pads to flip all 4 switches. Continue up and take the gong mallet. Return right past the orange slime and use the mallet to hit the gong. Go back down and talk to the 3 creatures on the pentagram - note their features and where they want to be buried. Exit the computer game.

Head along the corridor past the pentagram room and turn right to find a small storage area. Click on the red cross on the ground several times to uncover 3 skeletons.

  • Pick up the first skull (with large fangs). Bury it in the pot of soil next to the fireplace.
  • Pick up the second skull (with 1 eye socket). Put it into the fireplace.
  • Pick up the third skull (with an axe injury). Put it into the cauldron in the pentagram room.

Enter the computer game again and talk to the creatures - they will display a new picture on the wall of the computer room, which shows how to defeat the orange slime. In the game, head up and fight the orange slime. During the battle, avoid the deadly obstacles, then choose the appropriate symbol to attack based on the number of eyes the creature currently has:

  • 1-2 Eyes: Poison
  • 3-4 Eyes: Fire
  • 5-6 Eyes: Ice

Attack it successfully 3 times to win. Try to head up through the gate.

Basement

You will be kicked out of the game due to a missing texture, and there will be missing floor graphics in the cabin. Head into the fireplace room to see the wizard eat the missing texture. Head back down into the basement as instructed.

Move the 2 large rocks on the right to reveal the code D6 and the image of a floppy disk. Pick up a fuse from the shelves and insert it into the rack on the opposite wall so there are 2 fuses in place. Now examine the panel of switches on the wall - you can activate the same number of switches as there are fuses in place. Start with this pattern to reach A5:

Enter the static maze and collect a fuse, then go back and insert it into the rack. Now set this switch pattern to reach C4:

Enter the static maze and collect another fuse, then go back and insert it into the rack. Now set this switch pattern to reach A1:

Enter the static maze and collect another fuse, then go back and insert it into the rack. Now set this switch pattern to reach D6:

Pick up the second floppy disk (2/3). Return to the switches and set them to this pattern to reach the other arrow:

Enter the static maze and go through to the end. Select any of the textures, then return to the computer room and insert the texture into the back of the computer Interior Design.

Swamp

Enter the computer game and read the large tablet. There are 2 dead trees with colored symbols in the game, and 3 more trees that you can see out through the windows in the game. Light the torches matching all of these trees:

  • Teal
  • Yellow
  • Purple
  • Green
  • Red

Go up over the path to a new area. Head right and clean the stone slab. Exit the computer and go to the pentagram room. Read the cleaned sign on the wall and check the statements - the green and blue statements are true, so you can trust the green and blue frogs in the game. Return to the game and talk to each of the frogs, then light these torches:

  • Red
  • Green

Continue up to another scene. Talk to the frogs and light these torches:

  • Blue
  • Green
  • Red
  • Bottom Yellow

Continue up to another scene. Talk to the frogs and light these torches:

  • Left Blue
  • Right Blue
  • Top Green
  • Yellow

Head up once more. Here you will find 3 small creatures with different colored crowns, each telling you a riddle. There is also a statue that is balanced by holding 4 stones on one side and 1 stone on the other side. Back out of the computer game and go to the pentagram room. Pick up the 4 stones and put them on the suspended platform in the corner of the room. Return to the game and open the blue chest to the left. Back out of the game and go to the pentagram room. Now you need to take small cubes from the blue chest here and place them in front of the heads in jars, based on the riddles from the game:

  • Gold: Shadow
  • Silver: Gravestone
  • Ruby: Moon

In the game again, you can go right and up to meet a leprechaun. Talk to him and he will disappear - click on the rock with eyes just to the left to find him. Now he will give you a larger challenge and start hiding within the cabin. You have only a limited amount of time to find him 5 times, but he will always hide in the same 5 places in order:

  1. In a blue stool in the middle of the fireplace room
  2. In a cardboard box on a bench outside the pentagram room
  3. In the clown portrait next to the treasure door
  4. In a frying pan on the wall in the computer room
  5. In a basket on a small sofa in the pentagram room Hide and Seek

Go back into the computer game and talk to the leprechaun again - he will transport you back to the castle.

Upper Castle

Walk up to the next room, then go left and open the blue door. Back out of the computer game and walk around to find a new boar room on the right. You can remove the 3 green staples from the wall to create a direct path back to the computer room.

Throw one of the green staples at the glass wall in the boar room, then take the empty vessel. Return to the fireplace room and turn the tap, then collect some blood in your vessel. Go back to the boar room and insert this into the machine in the corner.

Next pick up the 2 cubes in the boar room and insert them into slots in the wall - these will spawn blocks in the game world to block the moving saw blades.

Return to the game and head up to the next room. In this room and the next ones, you will see some dice patterns on the floors - pay attention to these. Explore the other rooms and take note of the dice patterns. Leave the game and return to the boar room. Look at the map on the wall, which shows the 4 available rooms in the game, and highlights a specific position of a dice pattern. Turn left and based on these, enter the code 2536. Pick up a bag of fertilizer, then go to the fireplace room and use this on the pot next to the fireplace. Pick up a heart. Go back to the boar room and insert this into the machine in the corner.

Go back to the computer game. Enter the room at the top. Open the sarcophagus. Now quickly slide the 6 blocks around to cover up the 6 cracks in the ground. If you back out of the game and go to the boar room, you will see this resulted in capturing a soul.

Enter the game again and go back down, then enter the room on the left and stand on the red reset button. Now look around while you are playing the game and you will see the eyes on the clock are pointing in the direction you should go within the game. From the start, head in these directions:

  • Up twice
  • Left
  • Up
  • Right twice
  • Down
  • Right
  • Up twice

Pull the lever on the wall, then keep going up and take the scroll. Return to the central room and put the scroll in the green cabinet. Leave the game and go to the boar room. Look at the scroll that has appeared in the cabinet, which shows 4 runes. Press these runes in the floor.

Go back to the game and enter the room on the right. Position yourself so you can see the 3 large dials, then back out of the game. Go to the boar room and head to the ship's wheels on the wall. You need to turn these to complete the electrical circuit that you can see on the screen from the game:

  • Red: Turn 4 times
  • Green: Turn 4 times
  • Blue: Turn 5 times

This will provide electricity. Now pull the green handle beneath the boar's head on the wall to bring it back to life It's alive!. Talk to the boar and listen to what it says. Go back to the pentagram room and talk to the spider man, then take the last floppy disk (3/3) Complete Set.

Return to the game. From the right room, walk straight up between the green shields on the wall, then continue up through a portal.

The Wizard

Go up over a bridge and take note of the wizard statues - they have colored shields with symbols on them, which will be important in your upcoming battle. Continue up twice and talk to the wizard. During the battle, avoid the deadly obstacles, then choose the appropriate symbol to attack based on the color of the flames around the wizard:

  • White: Poison
  • Purple: Ice
  • Blue: Fire

Attack him successfully 3 times then you will leave the game to continue the battle in the cabin. Once again, avoid the deadly obstacles, then attack by pressing a sword button that you will find on one of the cabin walls. Attack him 3 more times to defeat the wizard The Wizard is Dead.

Ending 1

Return to the computer game and head up, then go all the way to the treasure. Back out of the game and enter the treasure room Mask. After the ending is shown, you can continue your game.

To keep going, walk around the cabin and click on the burning TV screens:

  1. Fireplace room
  2. Pentagram room
  3. Boar room

You will automatically end up down in the caverns Where It All Began.

Caverns

Walk forward until you can talk to a man encased in stone. Turn right and go to the very end of the caverns to see 3 runes on the wall. Turn around and go to the other end of the caverns to find a room with 8 pedestals. Press the runes on the pedestals that match the ones you just saw, and the barrier will open.

Go through the doorway and down to a larger cavern, where there is a huge serpent. When the serpent opens its eyes, you need to be behind cover or you will died instantly. Sneak around and touch the 4 runes on the snake to eventually kill it.

Ending 2

Once the serpent is dead, you can head through another doorway and make your way out of the cavern to the surface Survivor. After the ending is shown, you can continue your game.

Ending 3

Head back up to the room with 8 pedestals. This time press the 3 runes that you can see from the Pause menu (which are there because you have collected the 3 floppy disks). Enter the new red cave and pick up the scalpel from the wooden table. Go back down to the serpent and use the scalpel to cut the amulet from its head. Return to the red cave and insert the amulet into the wall to remove another barrier.

Now you need to move the small yellow boxes around to create a path of energy from the first red cave through to the weapon in the final cave. Pull the lever on the weapon to destroy the creature Root of Evil.
