Forgotten Hill: The Third Axis is a first-person puzzle adventure set in the world of Forgotten Hill. This comes after the previous game, Forgotten Hill: Tales, and is the first in the series to feature three dimensional graphics. You play as a member of the Secret Brotherhood of the Third Axis, investigating the disappearance of one of your colleagues. There are 12 Steam Achievements, all documented in the walkthrough below.

Meeting the Monster

Following along with the tutorial, long at the small dressing table and open the drawer, then take out the key. Use this to unlock the nearby door into a sitting room, then go through and stand on the carpet in the middle of the room. Look at the document (1/12) that is already in your inventory.

Examine the gramophone and look behind it to find another key. Back out and go over to the desk. Look in the left drawer to find a red stone, and the right drawer to find a document (2/12). Notice the red hand on the alarm clock in the shelves points to 8 o'clock.

Go back out to the entry room and look in the right drawer of the dressing table to find a pocket watch. Examine this to see the blue hand points to 2 o'clock. Go to the sitting room again, then use your key to open the next door and enter the study. Look at the grandfather clock on the right to see that the green hand points to 5 o'clock. Go back to the doorway and a horned monster will run at you - you will automatically close the door.

Exploration

take note of the symbols on the back of the door. Head over to the desk and look in the drawer to find a cube, then read the document (3/12). Now approach the next door. Based on the symbols on the back of the other door, use the door knockers as follows: Right, Left, Left, Right, Right.

Go through the door into a hallway. Turn left and look at the skull candelabra, then go out towards the armchair and read the document (4/12). Look up at the wall clock to see the yellow hand points to 9 o'clock. Open the next door and go through to the kitchen. Take the chicken leg from the wooden table. Continue through the next door into the living room.

Take the axe from the bookshelf on the right. Search the body to find a card and another key. Use this key to open the door and you will find yourself back in the first room. Walk into the next doorway and you will automatically use the axe to kill the monster Monster Killer. Look at the set of 4 colored dials on the right wall and set them according to the 4 times you have seen so far:

  • Blue: 2 o'clock
  • Red: 8 o'clock
  • Green: 5 o'clock
  • Yellow: 9 o'clock

Take the statuette from the compartment that opens to the left. Go around to the living room and place the statuette on the empty space on the shelf to the left. Examine the picture that is revealed, then go back to where you killed the monster in the sitting room. Look at the masks on the wall and set them to match the picture:

  • Top Row: Red hexagon, red diamond, yellow hexagon
  • Bottom Row: Red triangle, yellow triangle, yellow diamond

Once the top section of the desk opens, take out the record and read another document (5/12). Place the record on the gramophone. Return to the entry room and look at the compartment on the wall, which reveals a puzzle with 4 cubes and 4 buttons. The goal is to display a square formed by the lines on the 4 cubes (matching the cube in your inventory). From the starting position, make these moves:

  • Press the left button at the bottom
  • Press the bottom button on the right 3 times
  • Press the top button on the right
  • Press the left button at the bottom
  • Press the top button on the right

Take the ruby from behind the picture that moves on the opposite wall. Head through the study into the hallway and turn right. Insert the ruby into the door here. Open the door and take a cube from the pedestal on the left. Examine this and look through each of the 3 holes to see angles. Go around to the other part of the hallway and examine the large compass device. Set the angles according to the cube you just collected:

  • Press the green button until the crow points to 90°
  • Press the blue button until the moon points to 225°
  • Press the red button until the compass north points to 45°

Take out the artifact and examine it (symbols on the top, numbers on the bottom). Return to the sitting room and look at the front of the gramophone. Number the 4 buttons like this:

Press the buttons in this order: 2, 4, 4, 1, 2, 3 Put the music on. Take the piece of paper from the left side of the gramophone. After examining this, go back to the kitchen and look at the spoons in the rack on the wall. Adjust them as follows:

Now go to the opened niche and pick up a brain. Head back to the study and find a pedestal beneath heads of a bear, pig and deer on the wall. Place the brain here If it bleeds.... Go back to the hallway and turn right to find the small room. Take the key from the chamber that was previously filled with blood. Next head to the living room and use this key in the lock on the wall - the bookcase will slide to the right.

Dungeons

Enter the secret passage and go to the far end. Look at the paper on the right side of the far wall Temerarius. Turn around and pick up the broken birdcage. Now turn back around and stand up the chair, then climb on it to reach the noose. Hang the broken birdcage here and put the chicken leg inside. Continue through the next doorway.

Search the drawer in the left corner of the room to find the next document (6/12). Open the next door and go through to find a room with a cell. Talk to the prisoner, paying attention to the song he recites. Go back to the previous room and open the panel on the wall. Examine the back of the pocket watch in your inventory. Based on this and the song, set the controls in the panel as follows:

Take out a key and a blue stone. Open the padlock on the cell door with this key, then talk to the prisoner again. While you are here, take the tripod from the right side of the room, and look under the bed for another document (7/12). Leave the cell and open the old stove just outside to find another key. Use this on the next door, then go through. Find a document (8/12) on the workbench. Search the cupboards below to get a can, a cleaver and another document (9/12). Look around to the right side of the bench to find another piece of paper.

Return to the main part of the house and head to the kitchen. Look at the pans hanging on the wall, and hit them in order according to the piece of paper you just found:

Take the lever and matches from the cupboard that opens. Go back to the final room of the dungeons and look at the machine on the bench. Attach the lever to the right side. Place the can in the holder, then use the lever. Now take the opened can. Return to the cell and offer the opened can to the prisoner. Use the opened can on the mug on the small table, then pick up the full mug. Give this to the prisoner, who will now follow you.

Escape

Head back towards the main part of the house, but you will see the monster running around again. The prisoner will go and hide in the closet. Go out towards the front of the house and you will run into the monster Killed. Return to the living room and you will see new symbols painted on the walls in blood.

Go into the final room of the dungeons again and talk to the closet Hide and Seek. Now open the panel on the wall. Press the buttons to set the 4 symbols to match those from the living room: Hand, Eye, Infinity, Square Spiral. Go through to the next room and look inside the stove to find the next document (10/12). Look at the bench and pick up the hammer, then use your cleaver on the meat, then pick up the meat (you will get 6 pieces).

Go back out to the previous room and try to use the hammer on the prisoner in the closet Bad boy. Place a piece of meat on the hook in the cage in this room. Go back through the dungeons and place more meat on each hook you see. Put the final piece of meat on the gold service tray in the entry room. The prisoner will end up shutting the monster in the cage Gotcha!.

Head out to the hallway and use your hammer to break the glass sphere so you can take the green stone. Continue around to the study and insert the 3 stones in the plaque on the wall over the desk. Take the artifact from the opened drawer and examine it closely. Go back to the final room of the dungeon and examine the locked toolbox on the ground. Open it with a code based on the artifact you just found:

  1. Circle with vertical line
  2. Vertical line with 3 crossing horizontal lines
  3. Square with extra lines at top and left
  4. Horizontal line with 2 vertical lines down and 1 up

Take out the screwdriver. Go out to the living room and use this on the vent cover in the wall. You can't reach the thing inside the vent, so talk to the prisoner and he will crawl inside, bringing out a crank. Walk around to the sitting room and use the crank on the hole in the wall. Look at the marks on the wall. Place your tripod on the carpet in the middle of the room, then place your card on top of the tripod. Look through the card to see a series of 4 symbols.

Continue into the study and look at the large safe. Enter the combination based on the 4 symbols you just saw:

  1. 7 o'clock
  2. 12 o'clock
  3. 5 o'clock
  4. 9 o'clock

The safe door will now open Burglar. Look inside and take the candle and the final 2 documents (12/12) Collector. Go out to the hallway and use your matches to light the candle on the skull candelabra. Place the other candle here and light it as well. Look at the wall that has been revealed to the right, and hit it with your hammer 3 times. Look at the object behind the wall Mission completed.

You will get an extra achievement for not using any puzzle hints throughout the game Brainiac.
