Dum-Dum

Getting Started

Before playing the main part of the game, start exploring the main computer interface. Open the "Read Me" file on the desktop and scroll all the way to the bottom Clue Detective. Next open the Files folder. Start by playing the Games and collect the following achievements:

• Bomb Brusher: Complete the Mine Sweeper clone, successfully clearing all squares that are not mines Bombs Away
• Coin Flip Pro: Just say that you have guessed wrong 10 times Not Your Lucky Day
• Hogoword 1985: You need to guess a 4-letter word in a Mastermind clone Expanding Your Vocabulary
• Hogoworm Dungeon: Collect all 85 treasures to get a score of 0 with your worm while avoiding the spider Treasure Hoarder
• Peg Jumper: Complete the peg removal game, ending with 4 or less pieces Sole Survivor
• Solitaire 1985: Clear all cards in the game World Champion
• Tic Tac Toe: Win a game against the computer XOXO
• Tile Slider: Rearrange the tiles in correct order from 1-15 Creating Order From Chaos
• Turny Off: Turn the light off by disabling all 12 circuits Release The Roaches

Next browse the Applications and collect these achievements:

• Animator: Draw and play any animation Professional Animator
• Catculator: Create an error by entering a number that is too long Expressing Your Felines
• Piano Composer: Record and play a song Electric Conductor

Go to the System Files tab and collect some more achievements:

• Background Color: Select any new color for the desktop background Off-Color
• Desktop Icons: Add any new icon to the desktop Easy Access
• Display Size: Change the resolution to the maximum values Maximum Overdrive
• Fonts: Select any new font for the system Why, Indeed?
• Mouse: Select any new mouse image Making Your Point
• Basic Box: Save a file as Boot.Basic by typing "SAVE BOOT", then restart the whole game Boot To The Head

Main Quest

Hogo OS 1985

Start the Dum-Dum program and answer the question about whether you are a Dum-Dum the same way 5 times in a row The Definition Of Insanity. Listen to everything the employee has to say to you. From the System Files tab, start up Basic Box and type "HACK" Beanie Hat Hacker. Talk again using the Dum-Dum program. Start Basic Box again type "HACK SECURITY", then select option D4. Now you can go to the Applications tab for more achievements:

• Store: Install all 3 available programs Secret Shopper
• Analog Clock: Just start the program Digital Is Not The Future

Go back to Basic Box and type "HACK SECURITY", then select option D4. Keep the Dum-Dum window open, and go to System Files to start Security Station. From the Human Menu here, select Unlock Advanced, and enter the code 641541 as prompted. Now select these options from the Human Menu:

• General Permissions: Global Captive Settings: Set All Humans Free
• Keeping Humans Alive: Hygiene Focus of the Day: Shower
• Required Activities: Full Night Sleep: Required
• Roaming Locations: Front Entryway, Hallways, Stairs
• General Permissions: Global Captive Settings: Set All Humans Free People Person

Go to the Alarm Grid page, and play the game to turn off the entire alarm grid Off The Grid. Now go to the Robot Menu, then Access Updates. Go back to Electro-Mail and send a message to "HOGO.48215". Read the reply to see the current code is 38911, as well as a message about not playing music on the robots. Back in the Security Station, from the Robot Menu, select Unlock Advanced, and enter the code 38911. Now select these options from the Robot Menu:

• Install New Feature: Install Music
• Launch New Feature: Launch Music
• Temporary Overrides: Speaker Volume
• Core Settings: Speaker Volume: 5

Go back to the Human Menu again:

• General Permissions: Global Captive Settings: Set All Humans Free How Much Do You Charge

Close down the Dum-Dum program and wait for a while, then start it up again to learn about the new problem. Start the Security Station up and go to the Floor Maps section, then wait for your helper to give you some more store credits. Go back to the Applications tab, then open the Store and install all 3 available programs. Use the Desktop Icons program under System Files to add an icon for Security Station to the desktop, then use Code Buster on Security Station Who You Gonna Call.

Go back into the Security Station and look at the Floor Maps, then open up Floor 8. Talk to the employee to make a plan. Send a series of commands as instructed using the Dum-Dum program On The Same Page. Guide the employee all the way down from Floor 8 to the Ground Floor and through the exit Plight Of The Navigator.

Bring up the Basement map and use the Dum-Dum program again - the employee will mention the code 6510. In the Security Station program, to go Video Cams and enter the code 6510. Now answer a series of questions about Hogo Rugnant, using information from the "A History of Hogo" document under Text Books:

Start up the Dum-Dum program again to start talking to Hogo Rugnant. Keep talking until the communication is cut off The Doctorer Is out. Go back to Video Cams in the Security Station program and turn off the camera. Start up the Dum-Dum program again to talk to the employee, who is back on Floor 8. The Security Station program will now stop working. Go back to the Store and install all 4 available programs. Read the HOGO CEO Science #1 document under Text Books David And Donna Are The Worst.

Start up Project Access from Applications, then start up Dum-Dum again. Enter the code "53280" into Project Access, then click the Link button and select Note Sheet. Close all of this down again. Open up the Text Book on Robot Programming, and use the Note Sheet application to copy the text for Unlock Robot. Now start up Project Access again and link to Note Sheet again. Use Dum-Dum, and the employee will tell you that it didn't quite work. Go to System Files and Fonts, changing to "Why Is This Even". Start up Project Access and link to Note Sheet one more time. Change the font back again, then start up Dum-Dum If Locks Could Kill.

Copy the text for Erase Code from the text book to the Note Sheet. Change the font back to "Why Is This Even", start up Project Access and link it to Note Sheet. Change the font back again, then start up Dum-Dum Wipe Out.

Copy the text for Add New Code from the text book to the Note Sheet. Change the font back to "Why Is This Even", start up Project Access and link it to Note Sheet. Change the font back again, then start up Dum-Dum Getting With The Program.

Start up Project Access and link it to Turtle Program. Start up Turtle Program, and create a program to guide the robot up the gray tiles from the bottom to the top (you can change the starting position, and need to reach the very top). Make sure you also have Dum-Dum running, and you will have to repeat this on 3 more sets of pipes Wall Crawler.

The employee will now talk to you about what to do next. Copy the text for Computer Interface from the text book to the Note Sheet. Change the font back to "Why Is This Even", start up Project Access and link it to Note Sheet. Change the font back again, then start up Dum-Dum. Go back to the Store and install all 3 available programs. Read the HOGO CEO Science #2. Run the Bad Employee (Beta) program from your Applications tab. Connect to the 9th floor computer, but the user there will disconnect you. Go the troubleshooting options and start the drive optimizer and drive scan, then reboot the computer Crash Course.

Close Dum-Dum, then start it up again. Now start up Basic Box and type "SCAN". After your next conversation with the employee, start Security Station and also run Studio Audience under your Applications tab. Play the "Boo" sound Approval Rating.

Talk to the employee through Dum-Dum again - now you need to keep the Studio Audience program running. Open the Background Color program under System Files and "Boo" again. Repeat this with the Fonts program, then the Desktop Icons program, then Piano Composer and finally Dum-Dum. Go back to the Store and install the new text book, then go and read through it. Use Dum-Dum again, then open your Electro-Mail and read the message from "HOGO.1". Open up The Hogonet Reader and go to address "HOGO/CONTRACT". Scroll down and click on "I Agree". Now use Electro-Mail to send a message to "HOGO.1" that says "Up Down Up Up Down, Down Up Up Down Down, Up Up Down Down Up". Start up Dum-Dum again to meet the CEO Who's The Boss.

After the conversation, close Dum-Dum and open it again. Finish talking to the employee, then go to the System Files tab and start OS Upgrade. Select Hogo OS 1984.0 Back to the Past.

Hogo OS 1984

Play any game on the HOGO 270 Emulator Arcade Perfect. Now start the AIBY program and play Dum-Dum. As previously, answer the question about whether you are a Dum-Dum the same way 5 times in a row. Now that AIBY is communicating with you, answer the questions as follows:

• Are you trying to communicate with me Dum-Dum: Answer "Yes" in the Dum-Dum game
• Can you tell me how much of a Dum-Dum you are on a scale of 1-5: Answer any number 1-5 in the calculator
• Do you want to talk about artificial intelligence things: Answer "Yes" in the Dum-Dum game
• I know about artificial intelligence things: Answer "1" in the calculator
• Please tell me what you would like to do with your AI: Press the "Shutoff" button in the bottom right
• Are you talking specifically about doing that to me: Answer "No" in the Dum-Dum game
• I think you mean bad one that I know is this who you mean: Answer "Yes" in the Dum-Dum game
• Please tell me the first digit of your serial number: Look at the serial number displayed in the System program, then answer with its first digit in the calculator
• Please tell me the second digit of your serial number: Answer with the second serial number digit in the calculator
• Please tell me the last digit of your serial number: Answer with the last serial number digit in the calculator
• Is the AI that you want to shut off currently active on Hogo OS 1985 Edition: Answer "Yes" in the Dum-Dum game
• Is this acceptable to you: Answer "Yes" in the Dum-Dum game

Now use the Upgrade program and select Hogo OS 1985.0.

Go to the System Files tab and open the About System program, then click the AI Removal Button. Let the process complete, then open the Dum-Dum program and talk to the employee AIBY See.

Run the Bad Employee (Beta) program from your Applications tab. Connect to the 9th floor computer, but the user there remove the link to the computer. After another conversation, open the Store and install the 2 available programs. Run the Combiner program, then start up Dum-Dum for another conversation Downsizing.

Open the Electro-Mail program and read the message from "HOGO.1", then open the Dum-Dum program again. After the conversation, read the new Electro-Mail message. Open up Basic Box and type "REVEALEGG" - this will reveal an Egg icon on the desktop. Use the Dum-Dum program to talk to the CEO again. Once the Egg program is ready, click on the egg Down The Hatch.

Talk to the CEO about everything, including Project Human Destruction. Start up Project Access and enter the name "HUMAN DESTRUCTION". Link this to the Update Log, then open the Update Log from System Files and read it carefully. Start Basic Box again type "HACK SECURITY", then select option B Expert Projector.

Start up Dum-Dum again to talk to the employee. From the Applications tab, start the Ask a Fish program, and notice that it is fixated on a single word (random with each game). Start up Basic Box again and write the following program (substitute XXXX for the word being repeated by the fish)::

20 GOTO 10

Now in Basic Box type "RUN" Expert Programmer. Keep talking to the fish in the Ask a Fish program Something's Fishy.

Try talking to the employee via the Dum-Dum program. Open up the Text Book on Robot Programming, and use the Note Sheet application to copy the text for Change Operating System. Now go to the System Files tab and start OS Upgrade. Select Hogo OS 1984.0.

Start the AIBY program to see that the AI is free to move, then use the Upgrade program and select Hogo OS 1985.0 Data Migration.

From the desktop, start both the AIBY and Egg programs from your desktop, then load the Combiner program Emergent Properties.

Leave the new powerful AIBY running for a while, then start up Dum-Dum and talk to the employee and CEO. With AIBY still running, open the Music Player and AIBY will fix it and then play some music Face The Music.

Start up the new Dum-Dum program and talk to AIBY. Open the Security Station program when prompted, and unlock all 5 functions. Keep talking via the Dum-Dum program. Open the Project Access program when prompted, and link it to Update Log. Talk via Dum-Dum again, then open the Music Player when prompted. As instructed, open up the Update Log and the Music Player at the same time, and AIBY will unredact the location and password (make sure you note this down). After talking again, load the Security Station and Combiner. Once the combination has occurred, talk with Dum-Dum again.

Open up the Security Station program and enter the password you just saw, then get AIBY to destroy Security Station. Open the Music Player again when prompted, then keep talking using Dum-Dum Data Unrecovery.

Start up Dum-Dum again to talk to the employee. Now load Bad Employee and connect to the unknown computer. Now start up Dum-Dum to talk to the CEO The Worst Employee.

Now use Smartness Power control to gradually reduce the CEO's intelligence down to 0. Now cancel the Scan once the CEO starts it, and select the Disconnect option. Confirm the disconnection, then cancel the Reboot several times and the octopus will leave for good. Close everything, then start up Dum-Dum once more Catch And Release.

Continue your conversation until the end. Start up Dum-Dum one more time Smart-Smart.

Additional Tasks

You can get a program approved:

• Electro-Mail: Send a message to "HOGO.2001", then reply to all of his messages
• Hogonet Reader: Go to the address "DEMO/BOOKMARK" and resubmit the program
• Electro-Mail: Send a message to "HOGO.766", then keep messaging and resubmitting the program until you get told to change its name
• Hogonet Reader: Go to the address "DEMO/BOOKMARK" and use the link within the demo to change its name, and it will appear in your Electroshare folder
• Hogonet Reader: Send another message to "HOGO.2001", who now owes you a favor

You can join the Merry Hackers Club:

• Hogonet Reader: Go to the address "HOGO/MERRYHACK" and get to the error page
• Electro-Mail: Send a message to "HOGO.235" and reply with the message "Up"
• Hogonet Reader: Go to the address "HOGO/MERRYHACK" and answer the quiz questions correctly (random with each game), then read all the information
