Distraint is a side-scrolling psychological horror game. You take the role of a young man named Price, working for a heartless corporation. You are tasked with performing 3 evil deeds, and then must suffer the consequences. There are 16 Steam Achievements, all documented in the walkthrough below. The series continues with Distraint 2.

Mrs Goodwin

Hallway

Knock on all 3 doors, then go back and knock on the middle door.

Mrs Goodwin's Home

Talk to Mrs Goodwin. After she leaves, examine the rocking chair, the door and then the wedding photo. Mrs Goodwin will come back and talk to you again The First Distraint. Now you can leave.

Hallway

Go to the left and examine the elevator controls. Go through the door to the far right.

Apartment 213

Examine the first door, which will be locked. Go through the right door into the kitchen. Go through the next door into the bathroom. Search the bathtub to get an ice cube, then return to the kitchen. Use the ice cube in the oven to find a key. Return to the far left and use the key on the locked door, then you will automatically go through to room one.

Continue through the door on the far right into room two. Search the desk on the right to find a horror book, then return to room one on the far left. Put the horror book in the bookcase and you will end up with a finance book. Go to room two again, and put the finance book in the bookcase here. Use the door that is revealed to reach room three.

Talk to the partners, then go through the door on the far right.

Nightmare

Examine the red thing on the couch, then immediately go to the far right.

Price's Home

Go through the door to enter the living room. Head to the far right and pick up the empty coffee pot. Go through the door here into the bathroom and try to use the coffee pot on the toilet Where Is Your Dignity?. Try to fill it from the wash basin here, then return out to the living room. Try to fill the coffee pot from the kitchen sink. Return to your bedroom and fill the coffee pot from the basin on the floor to the left Coffee, Please!.

Go back out to the living room and return the coffee pot to the kitchen where you found it. Go over and look at the television to the far left, but you won't turn it on. Now head into the bathroom, and back out again. Talk to the ghosts of your parents. Return to your bedroom, then walk left and use your wardrobe.

Mr Tailor

Forest

Go right until you can knock on the cabin door. Continue to the far right and talk to Mr Tailor - he will give you the cabin key. Return to the cabin and grab some firewood from just to the right of the door. Continue to the far left and try to use the firewood on the sign The Long Walk. Return to the right and use the cabin key on the cabin door, then head inside.

Cabin

Use your firewood in the fireplace, then go through the door to the right to find a hallway. Search the dark area to the far right to get some matches. Return to the far left to reach the living room again, and use the matches on the fireplace - you need something dry to start the fire. Enter the hallway again and go through the first door to find a bedroom. Search the trash can to get some paper. Return to the living room and use the paper on the fireplace, then use the matches to start a fire The Fire Maker.

Talk to Mr Tailor, who will come and stand near the fire. Return through the door to the right, then the first door into the bedroom. Examine the dog bed just inside the room, then return to Mr Tailor and talk to him again. Now go to the hallway and go to the far right to find the kitchen. Go through the first door into a bathroom. Examine the bathtub, then follow the scent of the dog until you reach the locked door in the hallway. Go back to Mr Tailor to get the hint "TREE".

Go through the door on the right into the hallway, then take the first door into the bedroom. Examine the puzzle on the desk and find the word TREE, which corresponds with the four digits 5678. Return to the hallway and go to the locked door, opening it with combination 5678.

Follow the scent to the right, continue through 2 open doorways to pick it up again, then continue out to the shed.

Shed

Search the desk to find a gasoline can, then examine the right wall and you will end up outside.

Forest

Go to the far right until you find the dog. Try to use the gasoline can on the dog Sniff This!. Return to the left and enter the shed, then continue left to the cellar.

Cabin

Use your gasoline can on the compressor, which is to the left of the open doorway. Go through the doorway and examine the washer. Wait for a bit, then examine it again to find a glove. Return right through the shed to the forest.

Forest

Go to the far right and use the glove on the dog. Go to the left until you see the elephant again, then head to the right and talk to Mr Tailor The Second Distraint. Enter the cabin.

Cabin

Talk to the partners.

Nightmare

Walk to the far right until you find a door you can enter. Keep walking right until you can talk to the crying Mrs Goodwin in the background. Walk right and answer the ringing telephone.

Price's Home

Go through the door to enter the living room. Head to the far right and use the coffee machine. Now go to the left and answer the ringing phone. Talk to the ghosts of your parents, then use the coffee machine again. Go through the left door into the bedroom and use the wardrobe.

Nursing Home

Head to the far right and go through the dark doorway into the basement. Walk left to meet the janitor, who will give you a key. Back upstairs, go through the double doors to the left to find a hallway, then use the key on the door to the far right. In the breaker room, examine the fuse box on the right. You must highlight the 5 buttons in a specific order (random with each game) The Electrician. Go back up to the hallway, to the far left, then through the dark doorway on the right into the basement.

Go to the left and talk to the janitor again. Go just to the left and pick up some bloody meat. Go back up to the lobby, then through the double doors into the hallway. Go to the far right and give the bloody meat to the man sitting down. Go down to the basement, then come up and get some food from this man.

Return to the lobby and use the food on the door to the right of the save point. In room two, talk to the patient to get a cowbell. While you are here, search the wardrobe on the left to get a hanger. Return out to the lobby and show the hanger to the cleaning lady at the far left The Whistle. Now use the hanger on the television. Use the cowbell on the Deception sign to the left.

Return through the double doors to the hallway and go to the door where the bars are raised for you. Inside room three, take the flower, then use the cowbell on the skeleton. Return to the lobby and show the flower to the nurse at Deception A Flower To You, Beautiful!. Now use your flower on the door just to the right of the television. Inside room one, give the flower to Mrs Goodwin.

Mr Jones

Hallway

Examine the boarded door, then go through the next door into the apartment.

Apartment 24

Head to the far right and continue into room one. Go and smell the green smoke, then quickly head through the boarded door. Once the drugs have worn off, crawl through the hole to be between the walls. Crawl through another hole over to the right. Smell some more green smoke, then quickly head left through the boarded door. Still moving quickly, examine the painting to the left and you will break off a blue piece.

Once the drugs have worn off, go back through the hole to the right. Smell the smoke and quickly go through the door to the left, the door to the far left, the door to the right, and another door to the right. You will now be in room three. Smell the smoke and quickly go through the door to the right, then the door to the left.

Hallway

Still moving quickly, examine the painting to the far right and you will break off a red piece. Once the drugs have worn off, return to apartment 24.

Apartment 24

Go back through the living room to room one. Smell the green smoke, then quickly go out to the left. Use the blue piece and red piece in the painting next to the slot machine. Examine the rotated painting to reach the lounge. Talk to Mr Jones, who is lying on the couch. Go to the far right and smell the green smoke, then quickly return to the far left and through the painting. Go left to return to the hallway

Hallway

Now knock on the door to the far right and you will be allowed inside.

Apartment 26

Talk to the band members, then go through the other door into room one. Search the trash can to find a five dollar bill. Leave this room and the apartment.

Hallway

Go through the left door into apartment 24.

Apartment 24

Go all the way to the right into room one, smell the green smoke, then return left and go through the painting into the lounge. Go through the unblocked door here to find the balcony. Try to give the five dollar bill to the man out here Cheer Up, Mate!. Now examine the railing to the right to get an idea. Return inside to the lounge.

Go right and smell the green smoke, then quickly continue right and offer the five dollar bill to the phone operator. You will end up receiving a coin at the end of the phone call. Return left and smell the green smoke again, then quickly return through the painting on the left. While the drugs are still active, use the coin on the slot machine Jackpot. Leave the apartment by going left.

Hallway

Enter the door to the right.

Apartment 26

Give the blues book to the band members The Third Distraint.

Repercussions

Nightmare

Go right and open the door. Continue right and talk to the man at the desk.

Price's Home

Go through the door to the left, then walk to the far right. After the vision ends, use the coffee machine. Walk to the far left and pick up the newspaper. Return to the far right and use the coffee machine to get some coffee. Now sit down at your table.

Cemetery

Go through the gate to the far right to reach part four. Continue right and talk to the grave digger, then return left and enter the cabin. Search the desk to find a cemetery key, then return outside and go to the far left to return to part one. Go left and use the key on the locked gate, then go through to part two. Walk left and go through another gate into part three. Talk to the lady at the far right to receive a crowbar. Return to the far left, then the far right, and go through the right gate to return to part four.

Show the crowbar to the grave digger, then enter his cabin again. Use the crowbar on the right wall, and you will break through to part two, behind the fence. Search the area just to the left to find a plank, then go back through the cabin to part four. Use the plank on the grave digger's hole to be able to get across. Go to the next area to the far right The Light.

The Office

Talk to Jenni on the right, then go through the door just to the left of the save point into the coffee room. Search the open safe to get a salt shaker, then use this on the coffee machine to the right. Return to the lobby and talk to Jenni, then follow her to the coffee room and talk to her again Hah, Hah, Hah. Return to the lobby and use Jenni's phone (you will connect it to the blue plug), then enter the elevator to reach a hallway.

Enter Bruton's office and answer the phone. Return down to the coffee room and search the open safe to get a mug. Go out to the lobby and use this on the water dispenser 6 times. Talk to Jenni again, then use her phone once more (you will connect it to the red plug). Enter the elevator to reach the hallway.

Enter McDade's office and answer the phone. Return down to the coffee room and search the open safe to get a rag. Go out to the lobby and go through the left door into a bathroom. Use the rag on the urinal. Go out and talk to Jenni again, but this time she won't leave. Use the elevator and go to the far left. Examine the sign, and the janitor will be distracted. While he is gone, turn off the phone on his set of stairs. Return down to the lobby and talk to Jenni again. Now use her phone (you will connect it to the green plug). Use the elevator again.

Enter Moore's office and answer the phone. Follow the ghost through the door to the left, then to the far right. In the next area go to the far left, then back to the right and through the doors.

Price's Home

Go through the door into the bathroom and search the cabinet to get a shotgun. Return out to the kitchen, then go left to the living room. Continue through the other door into the bedroom and examine the desk to write a suicide note. Return out to the living room and use the shotgun on the chair.

Out in the hallway, walk to the far left and use the elevator. During the credits, roll all the way to the right The End.
