Chapter 1
Sewer
Climb up the ladder on the right to reach the higher ledge. Try to use your handcuffs on the decorative fence at the bottom right, then pick up the broken spearhead. Move the plank, then use it to cross over to the opposite ledge. Try to use your spearhead on the barred entrance here, but it is too big. Use the spearhead on the wall just to the left of the archway. Now remove the loose brick and combine it with the spearhead. Use this combination on the barred entrance, then head through the opening.
Laundry
Click on the sewer cap so you climb up into the laundry. Examine the tub, mechanism and crank handle, then continue up the stairs into an attic. Talk to Emily about everything. Examine the mangle in the middle of the room, then talk to Emily about it, she won't let you use it, so offer to help her by fixing the washing machine.
Head back downstairs and examine the washing machine mechanism to remove a fuse. Go back up and talk to Emily again to receive some soap. Go down and use this on the tub, then turn the crank handle to make soapy water. Use your handcuffs in this to make them slippery. Go upstairs and Emily will go down. Use your handcuffs on the rusted hook on the right. Pick up the handcuffs from the floor, then head downstairs once more.
Talk to Emily to get her help. After she leaves, pick up the dirty laundry and put it into the soapy water. Turn the crank handle, then take the laundry back out of the water and you will find some wet tobacco. Back upstairs, use the tobacco on the mangle. Go downstairs and use the tobacco on the fire. Emily will now tell you that the sailor is outside. Go upstairs and open the window on the left, then look outside to see the sailor. Return downstairs and get the dry tobacco from over the fireplace. Go upstairs and look out the window again. Drop the tobacco on the seat below (the sailor must be walking away from you when you do this). Look outside again and drop the handcuffs on the sailor. Now you can go downstairs and outside to the right.
Search the unconscious sailor to get a cap and a medallion. Examine the cap to find a letter, then read this. Go back inside and talk to Emily to learn about the pub. Go outside again and head left.
Chapter 2
Pub
Refuse the dice game. Talk to the bouncer, then head down towards the bar. Talk to the waitress, then to the innkeeper. Look at the pooped drunk, then examine the coat on the back of his chair (when the innkeeper isn't looking). Talk to the innkeeper until he agrees to make you a complicated drink, then quickly take the brass buttons from the coat. Go back towards the entrance and use these in the small bowl for money, and you will end up with some money.
Go back towards the bar and talk to the waitress several times. Show her the medallion, then she will leave. Examine the door to the cellar and try to open it, then talk to the innkeeper to get the key. Use the key on the door to the cellar, then talk to the innkeeper to get a corkscrew. Use the corkscrew and then the key on the door, then enter the cellar. After the confrontation, look at the rope and meat before going back up to the bar. Talk to the waitress to learn about the cemetery. Go back outside again.
Cemetery
Examine the gas lamp on the right to notice there is gas leaking from the vent. Try to ring the bell to the left of the gate, but it makes no noise. Take the bill, combine it with your brass buttons, then put it back where you found it. Ring the bell, then talk to the gravedigger.
Pub
Talk to the poker player to make sure he has the watch, then try to play with him. Go and talk to the innkeeper to complain about the poker player. Go back to where the poker player was sitting and grab the knife. Go down to the cellar and use the knife on the meat and the rope.
Cemetery
Use your knife on the broken pavement to the far right to get a paving stone. Examine the right gas lamp again and use the paving stone on the gas vent. Now combine the meat and rope in your inventory, then use this on the round window in the fence. Now you can climb the entrance gate. Continue through the gate to the right to find Brian and talk to him. Follow Brian to the right. Examine the fence, then the fountain ruins and the tombstone. Return left and grab the bench, taking it to the right. Climb on the bench to get over the fence.
Chapter 3
Police Station
Enter the building. Talk to the policeman on duty, then to the floozie and the hefty fellow. Look at both of the suspects and talk to the policeman on duty again. Talk to both suspects again, then go outside to look around. Return inside and talk to the policeman on duty, then talk to the harlot to retrieve your papers. Give these to the policeman, then take the office keys. Look at the keys in your inventory, then ask the policeman about them. Use the keys on the furthest door along the upstairs hallway, then enter the office.
Head back out to the policeman at the desk to talk about cleaning the office. Enter the office and examine the vault, then go back out and talk to the policeman about this as well - he will tell you the code is 88834. Return to the office once more and examine the vault. Follow these steps to open the vault:
- Click on the first number slot and turn the dial to 8.
- Click on the second number slot and turn the dial to 8.
- Click on the third number slot and turn the dial to 8.
- Click on the fourth number slot and turn the dial to 3.
- Click on the fifth number slot and turn the dial to 4.
Take out the wooden case and examine it in your inventory to find a magnifier, tweezers and a paint brush. Pick up 3 lots of garbage and the white plaster powder, and put everything in the cardboard box on the floor. Answer the phone when it rings, then read your notes. Go out and talk to the policeman, then head outside.
Cemetery
Go through the gate to meet Father Mulkehey. Follow him to the Nobles' Tombs. Examine the broken pieces of door on the ground, then enter the tomb. You will automatically go with the Father to the gravedigger's body. Examine the fatal wound in the neck, and search his clothes to find a flask of pure alcohol. Look at the water pump to the right, then use your magnifier on it. Go right and examine the dog. Use the tweezers in its mouth to remove a piece of cloth. While you are here, look at the bench, and use your magnifier on the wall above the bench.
Return left and examine the gravedigger again. Use the cloth on his clothes, but it doesn't match. Read the notes in your inventory, making sure to click on each image. Walk left and you will automatically come back to the same place. Head up the stairs and leave the cemetery. Talk to Sergeant Carter to get some matches, then talk to him again about everything. Go back through the gate, then left twice to return to the tomb. Head inside and look at the open coffin. Use the flask of alcohol on the extinguished candle to the left, then light it with your matches. Use your tweezers to pick up the gem that is shining on the floor nearby, then use your magnifier on it to see that it is a real diamond. Read the names on the sarcophagi before heading back outside. Return left and look at the tombstones here, then return to the front of the church.
Talk to Father Mulkehey again, then leave the cemetery. Examine the plague monument to the left to find a cigarette butt; examine this more closely using your magnifier. Talk to Sergeant Carter about everything, then leave the area.
Police Station
Go inside and enter your office. Use the telephone to try to call Chief Inspector Powell. Return outside again and leave.
Cemetery
Examine the bicycle twice, then talk to the irritating journalist about everything. Go through the gate and talk to Father Mulkehey again, until he heads into the church. Go back out to see that the journalist has left, and ask Sergeant Carter about him. Now enter the cemetery and go to the gravedigger's body. Chase the journalist to the right, then use the bench to climb over the wall. Pick up the shards of glass from the ground next to the barrel, then leave this area. Go back to the gravedigger's body and examine the camera several times.
Police Station
Go inside and enter your office. Use the telephone to call Chief Inspector Powell.
Chapter 4
Stables
Try to talk to Brian, and you will pick up the knife that falls out of his pocket. Also collect the wax candle from the stool, and examine the empty bucket. Look at the column on the right, then use the knife on the column to get a splinter. Go back to Brian and use the splinter on him to wake him up. Talk to Brian, then leave the stables.
House on Paradise Street
Look at the lamp and attempt to climb the left wall, then try to talk to the servant.
Stables
Ask Brian to help you by distracting the servant.
House on Paradise Street
Climb the left wall to reach the backyard. Open the kitchen window and look inside. Try to take the bottle of wine and the window will close. Open the window again and look inside. This time use your splinter to hold the window open, then take the bottle of wine. Use your corkscrew to remove the cork from the bottle. Head down to the cellar and use the cork on the cellar door. After automatically returning to the street, climb over the wall again and talk to the maid before leaving.
Stables
Grab the dung fork next to the door and use it to get the lucky horseshoe from over the door. Move the blanket where Brian was lying earlier to find some matches.
House on Paradise Street
Climb over the left wall again. Give the lucky horseshoe to the maid, then talk to her to receive some keys. In your inventory, use the matches with the keys, then use them on the candle to get a perfect imprint. Look up at the terrace to form a plan, then leave.
Stables
Talk to Brian and give him the imprint.
Chapter 5
Stables
Leave once night comes.
House on Paradise Street
Climb over the left wall, then use your corkscrew on the cellar door. Use your keys on the cellar door to get inside. You can't put on any light because the windows will be visible. Leave the cellar again and look at the two windows (one beneath the kitchen window and one along the right wall beneath the terrace). Try to move the water tub but it is too heavy. Use your knife on it, then move it to block the right cellar window. Now go and pick up the rag from the base of the stairs, and use it in the mud you created by emptying the water tub. Use the muddy rag on the other cellar window. Now head back down into the cellar.
Talk to Brian (down in the wine cellar to the left), then look at and interact with the following objects around the room:
- Decorative ornament over the wine cellar
- Three barrels of wine
- Unlit candle to the left of the archway
- Wine press in the far part of the room
- Well in the middle of the room
Brian will now call out for a crowbar. Take the iron bar from the right side of the well and drop it down to the wine cellar. Crawl through the opening to reach the second floor. Go through the door on the left into a library, then head back to the previous room to see another door is now open. Enter that room to find Brian and a sleeping man. Search under the pillow to find a torn page about crossbows. Show this to Brian, and you will receive a box of tobacco.
Head back out to the workroom, then into the library. Use the torn page on bookshelf D. Move the ladder, then try again and you will find the right book. Examine the book in your inventory to find a crank handle. Go back to the workroom and look at the crossbows on the right wall. Use the crank handle on all 3 crossbows and you will hear a sound. Go and rotate the chess table on the left and the vault will be revealed. Examine the vault to see that it needs 5 numbers.
Go back down to the cellar through the fireplace. Use the tobacco box on the wine press, then turn the wine press. Look at the cracked tobacco box in your inventory to see the date 19.4.58. Go back through the secret passage. Examine the vault, then follow these steps to open the vault:
- Click on the first number slot and turn the dial to 1.
- Click on the second number slot and turn the dial to 9.
- Click on the third number slot and turn the dial to 4.
- Click on the fourth number slot and turn the dial to 5.
- Click on the fifth number slot and turn the dial to 8.
After the old man wakes up, head to the library and pick up the candlestick by the window. Go back to the workroom and you will automatically block the door with the candlestick. Examine the vault twice and take the wooden case twice. Climb down through the fireplace, then exit the cellar.
Chapter 6
Police Station
After the phone call, read your notes. Try to open the locked crate. Access the vault to get the piece of cloth, cigarette butt and chips of glass. Look at the piece of cloth with the microscope. Combine the chips of glass with the newspaper, then look at the reconstructed photograph. Leave the office and talk to the policeman on duty about everything. Return to the office and use your phone. Go out and talk to the policeman on duty again. Pick up the key, then use your keys on the gate to the archive and head through.
Try to take the suitcase, but the broom is blocking it. Search the box on the right to get some plaster, then leave again.
Cemetery
After automatically talking to Sergeant Carter, go through the gate then into the church and talk to Father Mulkehey about everything. Head back outside then go left twice and enter the Lewis tomb. Move the coffin lid, then look at it and use your magnifier on it (you will automatically use your tweezers to get some human nails). Read your notes again. Leave the tomb, then go right past the church to the crime scene. Examine the ground here to find a shoe imprint. Use your reconstructed photograph on the camera.
Lewis' Manor
Ring the doorbell and talk to the maid, who asks to see a warrant.
Police Station
Go inside and talk to the policeman on duty, then pick up the warrant card.
Lewis' Manor
Use the warrant card on the peephole. Go through the gate, and the maid will escort you into the foyer. Open the black drapery and look closely at the painting behind it. Use your diamond on the painting to realise they are the same. The maid will return - answer the phone next to the stairs when it rings. Read your notes and talk to the maid again.
Go outside, then head through the archway to the left. Pick up a wooden peg from the ground near the dog. Go back inside the mansion and talk to the maid to ask to borrow the dog. Give her the diamond, then look in the drawer where she was standing and take the gloves and diary. Go back outside and through the archway, then talk to the dog so that it follows you. Once you reach the tomb, use the gloves on the dog. Follow the dog back to the front of the church and look at the shoe imprint here, then keep following the dog. Look at the chain near the ladder, then use your magnifier on it to get a second cloth sample. Talk to Sergeant Carter to organise a canal search.
Head through the gate and into the church. Talk to Father Mulkehey once more.
Police Station
Go inside and enter the archive. Use your wooden peg on the unstable shelf to the left. Move the old broom and pull out the suitcase. Use your keys on the suitcase. Search the suitcase twice, then leave the archive. Take the autopsy report from the bench and read it, then go through your notes again.
Enter your office and use your second cloth sample on the microscope. Combine the two cloth samples and use them on the microscope to see they are identical. Look at Sir William's diary to get an address for his tailor shop. Use the telephone to call Dr Steward. Go out and talk to the policeman on duty before leaving.
Wilson Street
Try to open the door but it is locked. Search the rubbish bin, then talk to the tailor and show him the cloth samples.
Cemetery
Enter the church and talk to Father Mulkehey until he leaves. Follow him outside and show him the human nails. After Sergeant Carter brings news of a body, leave the cemetery and head left. Examine the corpse, then read your notes. Use your empty case to collect some water, then combine this with your plaster to get a plaster mixture. Now make your way to the crime scene and look at the shoe imprint. Use your paint brush to clean it, then use the plaster mixture and pick up the cast. Go to the front of the church and examine the shoe imprint here. Use your paint brush and plaster mixture here, then pick up another cast. Combine the two casts to see they are different.
Talk to Father Mulkehey, then use the second cast on him. Leave the cemetery and go left, then use the second cast on the corpse.
Lewis' Manor
Enter the manor and talk to the maid. Answer the phone when it rings.
Police Station
Go inside. After talking to the policeman on duty, head down the corridor to the left. Talk to the print worker about everything, then leave the police station. Go straight back inside and head to the cells to talk to the print worker again.
Wilson Street
Try to open the door but it is still locked. Search the fountain on the left to find the tailor's spare key, then use it on the door.
Chapter 7
Police Station
Talk to the prisoner, then knock on the door to get a newspaper. Read the newspaper in your inventory, then show it to the prisoner and talk to him again. Use the newspaper on the door, then talk to the prisoner once more. Once night comes, knock on the door, then use the pallet to sleep.
Chapter 8
Theatre
Talk to Brian, then use your leg (in your inventory) on the very large candlestick.
Gallows Hill
Use your hand (in your inventory) on the something soft near the top of the screen. Now use your leg on the massive wood there. Right click on your head to scream, then use your leg on the massive wood until you break free. Grab the shovel and use it on the fresh grave, but Brian is already dead.
Examine the birds nest in the far corner of the area to get a stinking egg. Search the bag on the ground to get a theatre leaflet.
Cemetery
Go through the gate and enter the church. Talk to the priest, who will not help you. Use your stinking egg on the holy water, then talk to the priest who will leave. Take the rosary from the small table, then leave.
Gallows Hill
Use the rosary on the fresh grave.
Laundry
Head inside and show the theatre leaflet to Emily.
Theatre
After reaching the back room, go through the door to the left and continue to the left to some underground canals. After giving upon on the chase, return right twice and examine Jack's accomplice. Go up the stairs to the stage and take the scarf from Jack's hand.
Cemetery
Go through the gate and enter the church. Talk to Detective Briscol about everything, including showing him the theatre leaflet and the scarf. Leave the church.
Wilson Street
Enter the shop.
Chapter 9
Cemetery
After talking to Detective Briscol, try to leave the church. Try to call the priest using the exit at the top of the screen, but you don't know his name. Examine the small table, then call the priest. Slam the door at the bottom of the screen and Father Mulkehey will come out. Talk to him and you will eventually end up back in the underground canals. Untie the rope, then board the boat.
Gismond's Manor
Take an iron spearhead from the decorative fence on the left. Go upstairs. Look at the latch, and use your iron spearhead on it so you can climb up into a cellar. Examine the walled up door and the coach wheel. Move the chain and it will fall down - head back down to the boat and hide to the left of the doorway.
Go back upstairs and use the rope on a hook where the chain was hanging. Go downstairs through the secret opening. Examine the dead man and you will take his ring. Examine this to see the gem is missing. Try to enter the cooling chamber. Go upstairs, but you will come back down. Now enter the cooling chamber.
Look through the door at the handle, but you cannot use it. Back out and try to turn the frozen wheel to the right. Try to pick up the drain filter in the floor. Take some salt from the canister to the left of the door and use it on the drain filter. Now pick up the drain filter and use it on the frozen wheel. Now you can turn the wheel.
Lift down the meat hanging on the right wall, then use the large butcher knife on it. Use some more salt on the butcher knife, then use the knife again and take the butcher's hook. Combine this with your hook. Look through the door again and use your rope and hook on the handle. Open the door, then go out and upstairs. You will automatically run back down to the boat.
Quickly use your rope on the decorative fence to the left, then hide to the left of the doorway. Unfasten the boat and board the boat.
Cemetery
Show the ring to Detective Briscol.
