The White Chamber is a science fiction horror game featuring anime-style graphics. You play as a young woman trapped on a space station, trying to work out the mystery of where you are and how you came to arrive there. A new version called The White Chamber Anniversary Edition has been subsequently released.

Karma

There are multiple different endings to this game. Some will end the game prematurely, and some will become available depending upon your Karma level at the game's completion (based on a starting Karma of 1).

When there are opportunities to gain or lose Karma, these are highlighted in the walkthrough below. You can view your current Karma level by looking at the number of marks on the blackboard in the left of the Research Room.

The Karma-based endings and associated achievements are summarized in the final sections.

Walkthrough

Coffin Room

Use the wires next to the panel on the right, then use the panel itself 3 times to answer 3 questions. Answer the first question with "No" to get the window shutters to open. Answer the second question with "Yes" to get +1 Karma. Answer the third question with "Yes" to get the door to open. Leave the room.

Navigation

Go through the door to the right.

Storage

Search the lab coat to get a blank ID card and an override key, then go back through the door.

Navigation

Continue through the door to the left.

Computer Room

Use the backup unit. Insert your override key into the Station Rotation Key Slot, then back out and return through the door.

Navigation

Use the console. Press the green "On" button, then rotate the station until the Solar Backup Power indicator shows full power. Now back out of the console and use the wall panel on the left. Disable the safety lock and lower the cradle, then go through the top door.

Recreation Room

Use the purple switch to the right of the central area, and a video screen will rise up. Search the right cupboard to get video disc #1 and an arm, then back out and use the video disc on the video screen. Search the left cupboard and take the strange box from inside. Head through the top door.

Research Room

Take the axe that is embedded in the control panel near the top right. The blackboard on the left side of the room is where you can keep track of your current Karma. Return down to the recreation room.

Recreation Room

Go through the door to the left.

Sleeping Quarters

Take the mirror and the blue blanket, then continue further to the left.

Beach

Look at the forest, then return through the doorway.

Sleeping Quarters

Try to go through the left door again.

Save your game. Keep trying to head through the left door several more times to see the Space ending.

Head through the right door.

Recreation Room

Go through the bottom door.

Navigation

Go over to the creature on the console and you will pass out.

Sleeping Quarters

Take the note and video disc #2 then head right.

Recreation Room

Play your new disc on the video screen, then go through the bottom door.

Head through the door to the left.

Computer Room

Read the note in your inventory: "Patience While You Grill Bacon Rind". Use the right computer here and press the buttons in an order corresponding with the note: Purple White Yellow Green Blue Red. Now use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the droid to the right door, and press the space bar to open it. Return through the door to the right.

Navigation

Go through the top door.

Recreation Room

Go through the door to the right.

Medical

Start by examining the filing cabinet; open the broken drawer and take the envelope from inside. Open the envelope in your inventory to get a VCR tape. Back out and return through the door to the left.

Recreation Room

Ignore the fence and go through the bottom door.

Passage

Keep going down along the passage 5 times to reach the exit.

Navigation

Go through the door to the left.

Computer Room

Head over to the left side of the room. Try to use your axe to free the body to get +1 Karma. Use the panel just to the left of the body, then head back to the right of the room and use your axe on the blocked pipe. Pick up the arm, then go through the door to the right.

Navigation

Go through the top door.

Recreation Room

Go through the top door.

Research Room

Use your VCR tape in the video player over on the right.

Save your game. Let the video keep playing (for a very long time) to see the Electrocution ending.

To stop the video, pick up the laser cutter and use it on the video player. Take the large batteries from next to the table, and take the sample dish and scalpel from next to the blackboard on the left. Head through the bottom door.

Recreation Room

There is a refrigerator suspended from the ceiling.

Save your game. Leave and re-enter this room 3 times to see the Venomous ending.

Use the purple switch to the right of the central area, and a chasm will appear in the floor. Use your axe on the chain holding the fridge, then remove the torso from the fridge and it will fall. Go through the bottom door.

Navigation

Go through the door to the left.

Computer Room

Use the analyzer at the bottom of the room, then use the panel. Use your scalpel to cut the wire to get -1 Karma. Back out, then use your sample dish on the sequencer at the top left of this room. Use your ID card on the sequencer, before returning to the right.

Navigation

Continue through the door to the right.

Storage

Use your ID card on the scanner to get through the gate, then pick up the explosive. Open the freezer door on the right, then head inside.

Freezer Room

Open the freezer on the right. Try to use your blanket on the freezing man to get +1 Karma. Interact with the man to transform the room. Use the axe on the leg sticking out from the plastic sheet, then go through the door at the bottom.

Storage

Go through the door to the left.

Navigation

Go through the top door.

Recreation Room

Go through the door to the left.

Sleeping Quarters

Use the shower panel (just right of the middle of the room), then take the hair to end up with a severed head. Return through the right door.

Recreation Room

Go through the top door.

Research Room

Use your explosive on the door at the top marked "Vent", then return through the bottom door.

Recreation Room

Use your mirror on the video screen on the table, then head through the door to the right.

Medical

Open the power compartment and put the batteries inside, then use the laser desk. Use the steel box from your inventory on the laser desk to break it open, then examine the unsealed box and take the eyes from inside. Now place each of the body parts on the bed (both arms, torso, leg, head and finally eyes). Put the blanket over the body to get +1 Karma. Head through the left door.

Recreation Room

Turn around and return through the right door.

Medical

Walk over to the right and look at the body in the quarantine area to end up in there yourself. Pick up video disc #3.

Save your game. Look at the dirty wall here to see some questions. Answer the first question with "No" to see the Decaying ending.

Look at the dirty wall. Answer the first question with "Yes" to continue the game. Answer the second question with "No" to get +1 Karma. Head through the left door to leave the room.

Recreation Room

Play your new disc on the video screen, then go through the top door.

Research Room

Continue through the top door.

Vent Room

Head through the broken vent to the right.

White Chamber

Interact with the body in the middle of the room, then climb back up the shaft.

Vent Room

If you have Karma of 6 the game will end here. Go through the bottom door.

Research Room

Go through the bottom door.

Recreation Room

Go through the bottom door.

Navigation Room

Go through the door on the right.

Storage

Head to the right and enter the escape pod.

Karma-Based Endings

There are four Karma-based endings to the game:

  • Tormented: Finish with a Karma of 0
  • Damned: Finish with a Karma of 1-2
  • Redemption: Finish with a Karma of 3-5
  • Comedy: Finish with a Karma of 6
