Odyssey: The Story of Science is a story about a 13-year old girl and her family, who have become trapped on the Wretched Islands. You arrive at the islands by boat, hearing a recorded message from the girl pleading for help. After landing, you must solve a series of science-based challenges to track down the family and save them. There are 7 Steam Achievements, all documented in the walkthrough below.

Aristotle Door

After arriving at the pier, head to the door. Take the journal and read it, then slide the North pointer on the door to the dot indicating the North Star so you can open the door. Run up the slope to the right, and enter the hut when you reach it. Grab the pick axe from the crate, then use it to break the crate. Pick up the puzzle piece from inside it.

Leave the hut and turn left, then go straight ahead to find a wooden barricade. Use the pick axe on this as well, then continue through. Head over to the left to find another crate beneath a small shelter. Break the crate with the pick axe, then pick up another puzzle piece. Keep going along the path, past a broken bridge on the left, until you find another crate. Break this and take the third puzzle piece. Now turn around and go back past the shelter, then up some stone steps in the distance to find a solar-powered machine. Open the panel and take the journal pages. Read these in your inventory, then insert your 3 puzzle pieces to complete the electrical connection.

Head up the next stone steps and press the blue button on the box, then take the toy from inside. Notice the note that says "The antipode unlocks the globe". Turn around and notice a toy sticking out from part of the globe, then insert your toy in the hole on the exact opposite position behind the globe (on the vertical black line, one spot below the horizontal black line). Now go around and pull the handle on the front of the globe. Take some more journal pages, then also pick up a key.

Go down the steps, then along the path to where you got the third puzzle piece. Continue up a lot of steps, then climb a ladder at the end, and continue up the steps to find a yellow generator. Insert your key, then examine the door to the right. You must rotate the rings to match Aristotle's model of the terrestrial and celestial realms from the journal. Starting from the outside, the symbols should be:

  • Ether (moon and stars)
  • Fire
  • Air
  • Water
  • Earth

Press the button in the middle of the door to open it Geocentric Universe.

Zipline

Go forward and take some more journal pages, then climb the ladder. Go over to the machine on the right with the handle and the light bulb. Turn the handle to the right until it points straight down to 6 o'clock, then pull open the handle on the left and look at the diagram. Back out and press the blue button on the other box. Take some journal pages, then climb the new ladder.

Using the control panel in the middle of the room, flip the moon lever upwards. Now head over to the 4 dials on the right wall. Adjust them so they reveal symbols at the following locations:

  • Top Dial: 1 o'clock position
  • Right Dial: 4 o'clock position
  • Bottom Dial: 7 o'clock position
  • Left Dial: 10 o'clock position

Take some more journal pages, then climb the next ladder. Examine the machine here and turn the handle to the left until it points straight up to 12 o'clock. Head through the corridors out to another machine with a handle and a light bulb. Flip the small lever up to reveal the flat earth. Turn the left handle to the 3 o'clock position. Turn the right handle so the moon in the background is just to the right of the midline, stopping with the handle at around the 5 o'clock position. Now pull up the handle and take the key.

Back out and go outside towards the zipline. Use your key on the padlock Spherical Earth.

Cavern Door

Use the zipline platform, then climb down the ladder on the other end. Enter the house straight ahead. Press the blue button on the box and take some more journal pages. Examine the first machine to the left. Flip the yellow lever upwards, then turn the left dial to the 9 o'clock position (leave the right dial at the 3 o'clock position). Move to the next machine to the left. Flip the yellow lever to the left, then turn the handle until the Earth reaches the far right - when you have both of these machines correctly aligned, the box on the back wall will activate.

Press the blue button on the next box to the left and grab the next set of journal pages. Look at the next machine, and press the following 4 tiles:

2
3
1
4

Go back outside. You can now enter the house next to the ladder, as the door will be unlocked. Inside, press the blue button and take some more journal pages. Examine the machine to the right. Flip the yellow lever downwards to set the device in motion. Adjust the green slider to approximately 48, and the red slider to approximately 222. Now flip the yellow lever upwards when Mars is closest to Earth, and the green light to the right should turn on; keep trying similar values and stopping positions until you get it right.

Back out, and examine the next machine to the right. Move the red slider to the far right, then flip the yellow lever downwards. When the Earth is directly between Mars and the Sun, flip the yellow lever upwards (it doesn't matter where this happens). If you have it right, the next green light will activate.

Head outside and over towards the angled bridge. Continue right and down the steps. Press the button on the green generator. Once the water has been drained, head down and open the door Copernican Universe.

Rotating Bridge

Go along the tunnel and grab the journal pages from the device at the end. Examine the device, which has 4 knobs next to 5 colored panels. If you number the knobs 1-4 from top to bottom, turn them in this order: 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 3. Now pull the lever on the right. Go forward over the bridge and continue until you reach another machine with a light bulb. Turn the handle clockwise until the lights at the base of the planet light up, then push the lever upwards. Keep turning the handle until the planet is directly behind the light bulb, then back out.

Go up the steps and pull the yellow lever down, then climb the ladder. Climb one more ladder outside, then use your pick axe to break a crate and find a crank. Go back down both ladders to return to the caverns. Head back over the wooden bridge and out through the tunnel. Go back up the stone steps to return to the angled bridge. Insert the crank into the stand on the bridge, and the bridge will rotate Galilean Universe.

Safe

Cross the bridge to return to the first island again. Go left along the path, then up the stairs to return to the zipline. Insert the crank into the stand just before the zipline to rotate the bridge to the right. Go back inside and through to the room with the large sun in the middle. Turn the handle so that it points straight down to the 6 o'clock position. Head outside again, taking the right path, and use a different zipline platform.

Go down the path until you find a tower. Press the blue button on the box and take some journal pages. Climb the tower and examine the display. Change the numbers so that from top to bottom they read 10, 06, 05, 04 and 03. There are 4 knobs on the right. If you number the knobs 1-4 from top to bottom, turn them in this order: 3, 2, 3, 4. This should mean that the numbers on the right are "3,30", "2,12", "3,15", "5,20" and "4,12" from top to bottom. Climb back down and start following the white cable. Use your pick axe on a crate and take a diagram (1/5) from inside. Keep following the white cable and you will reach another tower.

Climb the tower and you will find another display. Turn the knobs on the left in this order: 4, 3, 2, 1, 3; the displayed numbers from top to bottom should be "5,150", "4,100", "4,80", "4,60" and "5,50". Turn the knobs on the right in this order: 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2; the same numbers will be shown on this side. Climb down and start following the yellow cable. Press the blue button on the box and grab the next journal pages. Keep following the yellow cable to reach the next tower.

Climb up and examine the next display. You need to click on the symbols to cycle through them and create the order of fastest to slowest when falling from height. The correct order is: metal ball, rock, stick, vertical feather, horizontal feather. Climb down and start following the orange cable. Use your pick axe to break the crate to the left, taking another diagram (2/5) from inside. Keep following the orange cable into a house. Press the blue button and take some journal pages. You can use the device on the wall to investigate the effect of changing radius on the height of a pendulum swing, but there is no actual puzzle here. Next start following the purple cable. Break open a crate on the left and take the next diagram (3/5). Keep following the purple cable to reach the next tower.

Climb up and interact with the display. Press the following 5 tiles:

1
5
3
2
4

Climb down and start following the pink cable. Down on the beach, there is another crate you can break open with your pick axe, revealing yet another diagram (4/5). Keep following the pink cable inside a small hut and press the blue button to get some more journal pages. Now start following the red cable until you reach another tower.

Climb up and examine the display. Since everything in a vacuum falls at the same rate, set all numbers to 02. Climb down and start following the green cable (actually you need to start with the red cable until it reaches a bridge, then continue along the green cable). You will eventually find a crate on the right to break open with your pick axe. This lets you get the final diagram (5/5). Keep following the green cable over the angled bridge into a small building. Press the blue button to get some more journal pages, then go back outside.

Use your crank to adjust the bridge position again. Now start following the light blue cable. It will take you through a narrow pass and up to a code box. Enter the word BIRD to solve it. Now examine the complex-looking door to the left. You need to set the symbols according to the 5 diagrams you have found around the islands, from heaviest at the top to lightest at the bottom:

  • icosahedron (24 triangles)
  • tetrahedron (4 triangles)
  • dodecahedron (12 pentagons)
  • cube (6 squares)
  • octahedron (8 triangles)

Press the red button, then open the door Simple Pendulum Physics.

Caves

Take the journal pages from inside the safe, then take the key from behind them. Follow the light blue cable back to the angled bridge and go across. You will find a yellow generator next to a well. Use your new key on it, then climb down the long ladder inside the well. Examine the door down here and solve the physics problem to come up with the answer 41. Turn the handle to open the door, then walk forward Caves.

Wagon

Look at the crates ahead on the right and take some journal pages. Turn right and keep going until you reach a corridor with some heavy swinging stone balls. Use your pickaxe on the wall behind the 3rd ball, and you will break it down. Head through and follow the path down until you reach some wooden boards. Walk up these and push the stone ball repeatedly until you see that a crate has been knocked down in the distance. Drop down and pick up an M key from the wreckage.

Turn around and head back through the caverns, turning right to go up a winding path between 2 stone columns. Head over a bridge passing over a river of lava, and take the final journal pages. Insert your crank here, then head over to the wagon and climb aboard. Insert your key, then push the yellow lever forward Train.
